Well, if the Government of China was not a despotic dictatorship that has prevented the foreign press from actually being in Tibet, we would then have photos of the crackdown.
If China is doing nothing wrong, then why will they not allow the media into Tibet?
Free and Democratic nations do not fear and censor the press like China does.
The Chinese can cry all they want about being abused by the media. They will get no sympathy from me.

No, the Interest payments on the loans from China to pay for the war in Iraq will do that.
My stupid Government just signed an FTA with China, mostly because the US wouldn't. We have nothing the Chinese want that will help in anyway with out appalling balance of payments. They on the other hand get to flood our markets with cheap, dangerous toejam. Toys painted with lead paint, vehicles that don;t even pay lip service to modern design, testing, build, or safety standards, and electrical equipment that they bung a step down transformer in that can fry testicles at 30 metres.
NZ just placed a foot on the road to becoming a South Pacific Tibet. China plays a long game. Their mode of Government doesn't matter. Monarchy, Communist Despotism, Political Hegemony, or Principled Oligarchy, all make no difference to the impoverished illiterate peasant. 200 years from now NZ will be a Chinese province.

Why stand up for something just because it is right, when you can bend to the whims of the mob and be made out as a hero.

Because it's Right with capital R, which is worth more than being made out as a hero by the whims of the mobb could ever be worth.
You (in the general sense) do things because they're Right, not because others agree. cf. any analogous scenario, such as in Omega Man/Legend.
The founding fathers didn't lose sleep over the EXACT wording of papers such as the Constitution so that those words could be bent, but because those words were the best time-proof cristallisation of those ideals and values that English could manage.

I belive one of the reasons that China got the games was to "push" them into improving their ways. In many ways it has worked, and in some it has failed so far. I think China will be a very different place before they were chosen and after the games has been completed. Hope im not wrong.

LOL... china is communist simple as that. Their communist economics do not work.... so in that regard they are more like the free world except they do not concern themselves with human safety. For the olympics to be held in such a terrible country is a joke.

Anyway, Tibetians are a minority in the cities. It's primarily chinese decendents, thus the Tibetian police ARE the Chinese.
