Thought I'd share this with all you regular MA regulars.
The Axis Vs. Allies has a development group that is comprised of players and AvA staff members. We discussed the successes of our WAR and looking at the feedback from players. It was compiled by taking the ideas of all members of the dev group and the AvA staff into a coordinated war effort that balances game play and differentiates what we want the AvA to be.
Here is what we have come up with:
Battle of Aces
How the Battle is Conducted:
1. The War is announced and scheduled for a three round event. Each round lasts one week.
a. Two week prior, Commanders are appointed with at least two XO's.
b. Players can sign up for each side and get added to the respective forums.
c. Each side is also informed of the war map for planning purposes.
2. Strategic objects broken down on each side and given a % value.
a. Commanders are then informed of their own value and the value of their opponents objects.
b. Each side is recommended to plan their strategy and give it to the squadrons to deploy their own tactics.
3. Each side is given $1,200,000 to spend.
a. The spreadsheet is used to pick their weapons to begin the war with field placements (one field per pick).
b. The spreadsheet is submitted to the respective AvA staff member NLT Wednesday prior to the war starting for upload the next day (Thursday/Friday).
3. At the end of every week (Thursday), a tally of strategic % is done.
a. Both sides start off with $1.2 million + any unspent funds from the previous round.
b. At 100%, Commanders can maintain existing setup or make changes as long as it doesn't exceed their budget.
c. Anything less, Commanders re-do the setup to their current budget amount.
d. If both sides have reduced strategic objects, both sides loose money.
e. Commanders must submit their spreadsheets NLT 5pm on Friday for changes.
f. All strategic objects are reset and the war begins again.
g. A winner of the week is announced based on the % of strategic objects damaged.
4. The following arena settings are set:
* Field capture is turned off.
* AAA is set to .333 (bases are not capturable, and you can't hide in your AAA).
* Object hardness for strategic objects are set to downtimes of 3 days (4320 minutes) with a hardness of a 500lb bomb each (0.500).
* Downtimes for ALL objects are AvA norms - 60 minutes (yep- 60 minutes is the norm).
* Environmentals may change - wind, clouds, grey skies week to week, day to day.
* Fuel burn is set to historical levels
* Morning is 8am and Evening ends at 4pm.
5. Commanders are responsible for ensuring their budget sheets are submitted on time. It can also be delegated to an XO.
6. The winner is announced at the end of week 3 based on the best 2 of 3 rounds.
7. Campaign ribbons are awarded to all players (based on forum access) and winning side medals are awarded. A new squad-based award is to be handed out as well based on their performance during the war and from any recommendation from a CO or XO.
8. Every once in a while, Commanders can run special missions with announced targets. AvA support staff may enable special features for this effort with bonuses for both sides on a successful mission.
We'll be posting the date of our first Battle shortly. :aok

Sounds more like a special event. Thought the AvA was open to anyone to go into anytime and pick a side and go fly?

Always someone. :huh

it is, but some squads and lone people like to stick with a side during these events/wars.

Over the last few days I strapped on my stupid and flew for the axis. What I love about the AvA is the close match ups of aircraft and generally better pilots. However, Each time I was on they were outnumbered no less than 3 to 1. Given the limited number of players everything is localized so anytime you got into a fight it was usually 3 plus on one. That is all well and good but without some sort of side balancing people are going to get frustrated.
How do you plan on addressing this?

OK thanks Tex, So the AvA is now hosting special event type senerios like the special events arena?
How do they monitor guys from disrupting the event? Can they boot them out if there not registered? Rearly ever fly in AvA and just trying to learn what the deal is. May want to try this out sometime.

What ever dude, learn reading comprehension. I am asking a simple question to learn more about this and the AvA.

I don't believe it will be. Side switching is more than frowned upon by many members in the AvA arena. On more than 1 occasion i've had "comments" on ch200 for switching sides and having no loyalty.

You'll get that from some folks who have no idea that your helping even sides and making the GAME better for all. They are the same ones that have no idea how fun and enjoyable it can be. When my squad switches to low number side some "self proclaimed armchair general" is apt to whine. They don't get it.
If your having fun that is what is important. That and keeping quiet about whatever the other side was up to. If I switch in the middle of anything to help even sides I just BS with folks and do not take a defining interest in where they should go or what they should do..... I just follow where I'm told.

any and all welcome, NO registration required. If you want to stick to one side then you can ask to get access to the Allied or Axis Boards. visit the AVA Forum for better info, I've sat all of the latest war but am going to spend more time in there.
After flying around in there a couple months made the MA much easier place to fly in.

There's no need to register, no requirement to stick with a particular side. Declaring alliegance to one side or the other entitles you to view that side's dedicated BBS forum, and to appreciate the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat, nothing more. You might find that your experience improves if you do, or that you like it better if you don't. We have lots of both types.
Fact is, it really can't hurt you to try it for a few nights.
Note that right now we're still finishing up a different war. This thread is about the NEXT war. You are encouraged to plunge into the one we're already engaged in.

Thanks Oldman, I will probably wait till after the next one coming up. Have to get surgery on my right shoulder next week and won't be able to play very good for a few weeks or more, not like I would be much worse flying 1 handed than I am now using 2....LOL.
-
Good luck with your surgery Hondo <S>

been playing AVA a few months now and love it. Really like the getting to know the players in this small setting. Looking forward to the new AVA. Check out the AVA forum in the special events ection and if you want to fly allied or axis request access to the private forum.

Hey, this is a valid question. What if I did not see this post and just jumped in there for a fight or two? Is it still free for everyone to come in and fly however they want? Can I still come in pick a side, fly for 10 minutes and get frustrated with it a leave? :D (that was supposed to be funny!)
Also, this does sound more like a special event to me too.

for those that haven't checked it out the allies have been running organized hi alt bombing missions and need more axis foes to intercept.

Problem is and reason I quit AvA is allies with 3 to 1 numbers - simply put axis don't have spitfires so nobody flies axis :aok
I did one flight with 3 guys to intercept one of this high alt missions and it was 12 on 4
-
^^ but luftwaffe pilots usually faced 10-20/1 odds
-
Was in AVA the other night--> wow what a great looking arena-> <S> < :rock The matchups look fair but wow it was HORDE CENTRAL whew! 3-4 190A8s, 2 152s and a K4 all wanting to hurt me little super jug! Balancing needs to be adressed somehow, " no idea how " it was pretty cool to be away from MA for awhile! after this fight most folks left and there was only 2 guys on then only me :( total time I was in AVA was about an hour. Not very appealing to tell the truth! But I give you guys full props for the way AVA looks! WOW very very nice :salute Get more folks in and even it out a bit then, I'm IN :devil

I hope you are enjoying the AvA monster.
Please take it to your forum (or not enough people there?) :rofl
-
I figured axis would out number the allies for this, kind of surprising to me. I get home late so I've been missing the big raids and only get on in time to meet them on the way home, but everyone seems to be having a good time on both sides. like yenny said and motherland posted in the AVA forum the numbers are close to the same odds the luftwaffe faced.
Another surprise is I thought some of the F4U crowd might show up for this, free 4-Hogs at the moment and I've only upped with 1 other person once. also we have a spit and for the most part nobody is using it from what I've seen, go figure.

sadly the ava is now a mini ma that i personally refuse to enter.
