it sucked I had 6 of us all primed for a new D-DAY  just when they decided to release it.

The reset then porked the map!

Little annoying  :furious

Thought that was supposed to crash the arena, or reset it when neutral bases were taken?

Stuff it, TK.

Countries are back to normal now, so is plane set (I think).  No idea where the front line was before the new patch reset everything.

Guess we pick up where things started.  Sorry for the disruption, but we're all happy to have HTC giving us updates, and this is the price we pay.

Like I said seven whole hours and its still not fixed....

Countrys look okay but now allies have three CVs and last weeks planes at some bases. I bet same thing is wrong with hte axis. So Ill "stuff it" when we can get some staff members who can fix things faster. If you guys cant do better then give the job to someone who can.

before it was messed up there were no axis on the island. When it messed up everything was red and allies had no plane set. Later when I logged in there were no icons/field names on the map just the map so I figured it was still messed up. went back at about midnight and same problem.clicked on map for the options and bingo no options were set. clicked on field icons and there they were. No allied cv's and plane set correct.

man did I feel like a dummy. good thing was still no axis on the island. anybody else have this problem.

TK, you really need to lay off the staff.  The staff are volunteers who have lives of their own outside of this game.  They have to deal with the backbiting and badmouthing of ungreatful ppl in this community and yet they still do this job for nothing but the community.  If you don't like it, don't play.  Or maybe you think HTC will pay somebody so that this stuff gets fixed when you think it should, since you pay your 15 dollars a month??

We were both speaking in anger at the time.  This isn't the place for it.  Sorry for my rude comment.

I would humbly put forward that perhaps we need additional staff.  It's not unreasonable to be upset that the arena was down so long.  It's understandable that they have other things to attend to but, perhaps with an additional staffmember or two there would be more of a chance that one of them would be free to keep the arena going.

Implying that the ones that are on the staff arent dedicated to the AvA correct? Cute.

No I dont. I know they are volunteers, but they have a job to do in this game to. There are ten or more AvA staff members. We shouldnt have to wait seven fricking hours for one of them to fix it. You are new to the AvA so Ill let you on a little hint. Theis happens EVERY time theres an update or new tour. What do you think would happen if the MAs were unflyable for seven hours? I think HTC needs to get a more people on the staff that arent in the central times zone, maybe a brit or two.

You seem to have plenty of time, timezone not a factor whatsoever. If you didn't have a boner against the current staff and could be trusted with the keys I bet you'd be a great selection. If that's your goal, you're shooting yourself in the foot wonderfully. Apparently base capture skill requires sacrificing one's social skills and diplomacy.

I tryed asking to be a staff memeber a few months ago. Seems the staff is like a country club. You have to be a friend of one to get in. Seems they vote and if one doesnt like you you dont get in. I could be trusted, but I really dont want to be one because that would mean socializing with people I dont like. Thats why I quit the CM team the last time. I want the current staff members to do a better job at kepping the AvA playable. I really dont think thats a big thing to ask I mean that IS what theyre here for.

Email HTC and file a complaint.

Do your job.

Some misconceptions here, perhaps.

First, we receive no advance notice of updates.  Yesterday's caught us by surprise, as all updates do.  HTC typically implements updates during the middle of the working day, which makes perfect sense.  However, with the possible exception of Panzzer of Finland, the implementation also occurs in the middle of our working days.  Unless we simply stop working in the middle of the day - as I did today, for example - we can't fix things until the evening.

Second, much as we enjoy our AH virtual companions, we also enjoy our families.  This means that most of us won't be able to sit down and take half an hour to set things right in AvA until sometime in the evening.

Third, there are six of us:  Fork, Soda, Slash, Duke, Panzzer and me.  Not ten or more.  Not that having ten or more would make much of a difference; there is going to be lag time between discovery of a problem and being able to set aside some time to fix it.

Fourth, can we be real here?  People couldn't log into AvA for Seven Whole Hours.  Life as we know it did not end.

Finally - and this is important - this is not our job.  This is our hobby.  We adjust settings, instead of flying and fighting, not because we relish the colossal egomaniacal power trip of being an AvA staffer, but because we like the AvA and we want to help it live long and prosper.  Fork and Soda, in particular, have gone way beyond reasonable expectations over the past few months in order to make your gaming experience more enjoyable.  So please pardon us if sometimes we are irritated to hear accusations that we are lazy, biased snobs.  It got really old a long time ago.

The interruptions will continue each time a new terrain is initialized, so there's a choice, live with the interruptions and play on nice new, or updated terrains... or do without. Everybody knows how that one will be answered. :aok

Both sides have valid points.  I just assumed Skuzzy and company let the staff know when updates were coming.  Seems like they'd want their volunteer staff (eg. free employees) to know what is going on.

Most of the time we get a message after the update has been released. Not this time but even so if people are not on a computer with the game installed we cant fix it.

HTC does like to spring updates when they like without pre-warning anyone.

Its their game they can do what they like.  Maybe it would have been nice for them to email the CM staff to let them know that they were going to release it at a set time.  Then a CM staff member hopefully could have been there to rectify the problem straight away.

If they did do this and nobody was available then maybe larry has a point.  It did put a downer on my evening as my squadron rarely get that many people 8 online, at the same time, all ready to go into battle.  It wasn't our squad night, we don't have one, but when we do get a small force, I like to do something constructive with them.  8 of us can be equal to 30 odd MA mega sqwads.  Hopefully I can get enough interest over this weekend to have another go.

Thats why I said we need a brit or two on the staff. Or some people that dont have 9-5 jobs in the cenral time zone. I understand that the staff members have jobs and families, but they also have a responsibility in this game. When they dont do thier job others cant play. The "we volunteer excuse" isnt really a good one because thats the point, they volunteer. When you join the team you know that others are counting on you. They need to diversify so that when an update does come out all the CMs arent at work.

If you guys cant get to a computer for hours after updates then get more staff members or ask HTC to set the arena up after updates or tour changes. Or maybe ask them to give a day or warning. I can see if there was an hour or two delay, but seven hours is just to long.

I believe Steffk is doing a bit of scenario work.

I would volunteer myself but I wouldn't be able to do it for the very reasons you state.  I can't guarantee I'll be online during GMT day time when the US guys are sleeping.  Even then you would need to come up with 3 or 4 non US staff members to try and cover everyday.

Its just one of those things that no-one can do much about.

Oh, sorry, taking care of the arena after the update should have been my business, as I would have been at home and awake, but as I wasn't near my computer on Tuesday evening about the time when the patch came out, the first I read of it was Wednesday at work when it was already taken care of. Sorry all!
