You gents do understand that the story is fiction as a back story for a cartoon airplane squadron don't you?

All the photos come from a book call "Cobras over the Tundra" which is about the pilots who flew the lend lease birds to Russia.  Those aren't Americans who flew combat in the Soviet Union.

It was a nice effort though :)

One of the great joys of my Airwarrior days was the fictional history I built for the Nomads from their initial days forming at Selfridge to the ferry flight via greenland and eventual basing at RAF Kliffsedge, where the 38 augering first began to occur :)

Yes, but the ALSIB is enough of a story on its own.  Besides, the book is dual language, so I can see how well my Russian is holding up having not been there for, oh, 8 months already.

What you DON'T know yet is the super-secret F4U suqdron that flew in Soviet colors...

This kinda tipped it for me: "In August 1941, U.S. Army Air Corps Colonel Jason Williams  ... "

And AAC Colonel named "Jason Williams?" Wasn't there regs back then that prohibited Colonels retaining names that sounded like someone's kid brother?
