Title: Infantry Support Vehicles / Tank Busters
Post by: Skrapper on April 10, 2008, 02:26:58 PM
It was nice to get 2 more GV's in the last update, I hope more are in store for the future.  One thing I would like to suggest is Infantry Support Vehicles / Tank Busters.  The Germans had numerous versions of these carrying very large artillery cannons, even bigger than the dreaded 88mm of the Tiger.  The Wespe (wasp) carried a 105mm, set on top a panzer II or III chasse I believe and saw plenty of action on the Eastern Front.  Another was the Sturmgeschutz (Assault Guard), which carried an even larger 120mm if my memory serves me right.  While the range of motion on the cannons was limited, they still produced a devastating amount of firepower and had dual-purpose as tank buster and infantry support artillery.  Another super-heavy tank was the Jadgpanzer (Tank Hunter/Fighter), which carried a 120-135mm cannon but the turret was fixed due to its weight and size.  Anyway, this is just a suggestion to add on the 'wish list.'  I'd also like to add the King Tiger w/ the Henschel turret (though the Porsche turret was impressive as well) to that list as well, but I'm sure someone has already thought of that...

British participated in WW2 ground battles ever?  (lol)

We need more soviets vehicles - KV-1/2, T-34-85, IS-2, SU-76, SU-122/152 (dont mean all of them, of course).

And one more word: Artillery

This has a lot of information on Montgomery:

Skrapper, I would like those vehicles you stated, but probably for the reason that IMO the Tiger is too difficult to kill unless you're driving a Sherman.  It seems to me that not even skill will make up for a lack of firepower when facing a Tiger, and I think that this would be the solution to the problem.

Rommel used artillery to give the brits a pretty big spanking in N. Africa. He dug large pits in the sand so the guns could fire straight across the ground then he lured the brits into the guns. The guns were almost impossible to spot from the air due to some really good camoflage. I sure wouldn't want to be in a tank being hit point blank by a large artillery piece. :O
