Title: Offline Pratice still fubar
Post by: watanna on April 11, 2008, 05:21:35 PM
What's the deal with the offline pratice issue.   Did a search and read all the posts and the only relpy I see from HTC was from Sudz.  No solutions or explainations as to what the issue is or when it is going to
be addressed.  My problem as with many is loads and then the white screen with error message send or don't
send to Microsoft.  Being puter stupid I can not capture the tech details and send them to HTC.  This aside I
would think Htc would at least acknowledge the problem and wether or not it is being addressed.  It is after all part of the game and should work.

Offline works fine for my somewhat older computer, problem likely specific to your box somehow---this is where Skuzzy always wants to see the "DX-Diag" thingie

It's not just a Vista problem, happen on XP as well.  It also only started happening for me after the latest patch.  Going online does not crash and if I disable preloading skins into memory before going offline it doesn't crash.  That would all tell me a code change of some kind, but then again it doesn't happen to everyone.

It's happening to me on XP too.

Everything worked fine before the latest patch, and I haven't changed anything.

Mine works fine on XP. Try turning off the preloading options (skins & textures), that worked for a squaddy.

Does it work if you load an online arena and then offline?

I've tried to load several different terrains and checked an unchecked but no go.  Now for a simple mind like
mine it worked before and does not now.   My machine is probably considered upper end.  Amd duo and twin
8800 GT with 512 each card.  As other posts have stated online works fine,  just offline messed up.  Hopefully Monday Skuz or Pryo or who ever the powers to be can make a statement as to what is going on.

Just telling them it's hosing up isn't enough---they invariably the dxdiag stuff (which I THINK has cpu info?)

Hadn't mess around offline much other than to test settings but I thought I'd check out some of the offline missions just for kicks. AH would start to load the terrain then once the terrain is loaded it just crashes to desktop. Online and AHFilm viewer are fine, it's just offline that has the problem. I'm running a not so old box but with 98SE as its OS. (I just can't ditch my trusty old CH gear and don't have the bucks to update it).

Thought I'd check the forums and sure enough I'm not the only one with an issue. I have little doubt the Hitech powers that be will squash this bug directly.

Mine runs the missions for a certain ammount of time, before crashing. It has never crashed on loading.

Is this just me?  I am able to run the offline practice mission just ONE time and have to restart the game to play again.   What happens otherwise, is after the briefing room scene, the plane is placed on the runway but I don't get any vectors and nothing happens after that.  Once restarting the game, I can play the mission just one time and have to restart again.

I see all sorts of complaints about other offline practice issues but not this.  Maybe there's something wrong with my configuration or all the missions  I downloaded from Baumer and Widewing.  It's not a huge problem as it doesn't take that long to restart but it would be nice if there is something I could do to fix this.

Thanks!

Anyone know if this patch fixed it? I briefly looked over it and didn't see anything about it.

Yep, patch 4 has fixed the offline-crash problem for me.

Yep me too. Thank god! Thank HT!

Well, patch 4 has done nothing to my weird "One flight only" problem with the practice missions.

Oh well, since I appear to be the only one with the problem, I guess it makes sense this patch would not address that.

I wasn't able to get offline until the latest patch.  Now I can fly offline but my computer locks up when I try to go to the MA after being in the offline practice.  If I go straight to online arenas after opening AH I have no problem.  If I go to offline practice first, then quit offline practice and select online arenas, I get to the lobby OK.  Then after I select an arena my computer locks up during the preloads for the arena.  I can't get to the desktop using the windows key.  I have to press reset to get out of it.  It happens evert time I try it.  My computer is pretty high end; e8400 processor, 8800GTS vid card, 4 GB RAM.  Is anyone else experiencing this?

I am getting this exact behavior.  I am certain that this started with this latest patch.

All I need to do it go into the offline arena (don't have to do anything at all in there) and immediately try to go online and the game will hang (requiring hardboot) every time.

I always had this problem.

Since the last two patches I noticed I could not practice offline. Intel Quad core 6850 here with 2 gigs of ram and 768 megs vram in my 8800 GTX. Haven't changed anything in my X-Fi sound card settings. Running full 1024 textures at 1900 x 1200 resolution and all AH2 graphics maxed out. I will try turning off preload textures and skins but that was not an issue before. Something was screwed up when the P-39 went online. Running in Win Me/98 emulation does nothing. It has nothing to do with multiprocessor CPUs. My frame rate was locked at 59 fps and everything was fine. Noticed it doesn't happen in my old computer or if I do not run 1024 textures in my new rig. Could it be the new updated 1024 textures code? Just trying to help with my 2 cents here. :cry :cry :cry
