Yon has indeed spent an awful lot of time in Iraq, most of it out with the troops. Former Special Forces guy, hangs out more where the bullets fly than in some rear echelon party room. He is clearly pro US military, no denying that. In a way though, he reminds me of Hackworth; he's not afraid to point out stupidity anywhere in the command chain, top to bottom.
He makes the case that the surge has had a very large impact on the situation in Iraq and that impact has been very positive. He calls for even more troops to finish the deal.
Check this out and decide if he has a case or if he is just a shill for Boosh.

He's a patriot and a stand-up guy, who could make a lot more money not getting shot at every day

Good read, thanks Toad. Especially liked this last line.
"Over the past 15 months, we have proved that we can win this war. We stand now at the moment of truth. Victory – and a democracy in the Arab world – is within our grasp. But it could yet slip away if our leaders remain transfixed by the war we almost lost, rather than focusing on the war we are winning today."
I think we'll see it through if either McCain or Clinton is elected. If Obama is elected and remains true to his campaign it will have all been for naught. Far worse even, he would give the region to Iran.
