Decided to go ahead and buy myself a birthday present.

1999 Suzuki Carry 4x4
I freaking love it! Drove it to work and made deliveries wednesday. It has a 3cyl 660cc engine, a/c, hi/lo 4wd and will run 70 mph. :D
I need to upgrade the tires and wheels, install a 3 inch lift kit and change the radio. I'm thinking about painting it midnight blue.
-
I hope it came with a matching purse! :P
-
I'd have bought a motorcycle. :P And I don't mean a crotch rocket necessarily.
-
After I install the lift, I can put some beefy tires on it. The thing is a beast off-road. It's like a Gator or Mule, but faster, stronger and more comfortable.Right now it has 12in wheels. I'm going to go up to 13in and put all weather tires on it.

What's the deal with naming transportation? It's got to be a guy thing. I think all of our vehicles have been given names in the past; even my 9 year old has named his favorite skateboard "Lorainne."
p.s. I like your vehicle. :)

Holy cow those 13" wheels will make ALL the difference!

Maybe this will help you get the idea.

Really great vehicle, very use full if you live in a third world country or africa.
-
Or if you go to the races, the lake, hunting or just to have fun in the mud.

Thats a tank :D

TxMom, love ya to death, but did ya miss it? Suzuki- Suzi...? It's a natural progression.
Oh and BTW, the first car I owned was a '72 Monte Carlo, 'Charlene' ;) Anyone catch the reference?
-
I like it rpm!
What kind of mileage does it get? Those tires should kill the mileage and ride, but if you're going to use it off road it should do well. What does it weigh?
-
was that little .66 liter engine was screaming bloody murder at 70mph?
and what Eskimo2 asked.

I think Texas counts as both a Third World country and Africa. :D

Oh my god that is so PRECIOUS! Makes you want to run up for a hug.
Get it a date with a ford Ka or nissan micra and raise a cute little micro car family :)

Yea, but without roving bands of rednecks going town to town killing every child and raping all the women, it just doesn't feel the same.

Bingo!
Nevermind the haters rpm, looks good!

:rofl :rofl
Actually I think it's pretty neat. However, in my list of wants that vehicle never materialized. :uhoh

I've seen a few of those around here. Seen a couple of Autotransporters full of them on the interstates also. What kinda fuel mileage does it get now? Also the bigger tires will increase the fuel mileage at speed, bigger circumferance equals more feet traveled per revoltion. But that will be at the trade off of more H.P. (or torque) to get it moving. But hey, at least your doing something to decrease your fuel expenses, and you actually use it off-road. More than I can say for all the useless Hummers, H2's, and H3's I see in Chicago.

Hummers suck in the mud. I've seen three different H1's snap their front cheap-o, IFS axle outers and have to "sled" the overpriced rig out. Ruining the rig in the process. One did almost $20,000 of damage for 2 hours on the trail.
Hummers are the biggest waste of money. Their platforms suck and the engines are anemic.

LMAO, "midnight blue".
It's GM code 352, Navy Blue Metallic.
I expect it painted before the start of summer.
Over.

The thing about bigger tires = more gas milage isnt always true. I 30 inch tires on my truck from 27 inch, dropped my Engine revs to 1700 rpm at 70ish mph. Milage went from 18 to between 15 and 17. I never see over drive unless im flat and level or down hill lol.

Weight of the tires has more of an effect on the MPG, than the "regearing" involved.
But the payload does increase on Light Trucks when going to a larger tire.

Probably an easy explanation there. Engines have different powerbands-wherein an engine makes' it's best balance of HP and torque, between certain RPM's in the engine's operating limits. For example, My old '91 Formula 350 Firebird always seemed to make the best power between 2000 and 4500 RPM. Running lower than 2k seemed like the engine was a little dead, from the amount of throttle I was giving it. Over 4500, and it felt like it was running out of breath, even though it would run up to 5500. I got my best MPG when I ran with the Cruise set at around 2100-2300, in OD.
What I believe has happened to you Superpug, is that by going to a taller tire, you have in effect, changed the final drive ratio, and thus changing the operating band of your engine at the same speeds'. Before your tire change, your motor was probably running in it's sweet spot-making the easiest power for a given throttle setting. You made the same power to pull you down the road, with the least possible throttle. Whenever you put on taller tires, figure that for every additional inch taller, you go +-10% taller with your gears; by going from 27's to 30's, you in effect went to 30% taller gears. That has forced your motor to operate for a given speed, at an RPM that might be too low for it to make enough power to pull down the road, without excessive throttle/fuel usage, and lower Manifold vacuum as a result. Your best fix to run the 30's would be to either go with a deeper rear end gear, or run a different Tranny with a less-severe overdrive.
Almost forgot, running a vacuum guage in cab could help you on your mileage. Generally, running as much Intake manifold Vacuum as possible, for a given speed, is a good way to maximize your mileage.

Sorry it took so long to reply. Long work day. It gets around 55mpg now. Have not driven it enough to get a good reading yet. It weighs 1500lbs and yes, it was screaming at 70mph. It runs 55mph with no stress at all. I am now in search of a service manual in english. I know eventually I'll need it.
The bigger tires will reduce the horsepower, but not much. If I went with bigger than 13in rims then it would make a big difference. The main reason for the bigger tires is so I can put wider ones on which will help off road. I live on a ranch and plan to put it to work earning it's keep.

Step up to the chrome 16" snowflake wheels I have left over from the wheel/tire swap. Then slam that squeak to the ground and put some headers on it. I heard stickers are good for another 10-20 RWHP. Bling, blinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng!!!!!!!

how often do you have to replace the hamster on the treadmill under the hood? :D

OK, time to stump the O'Club. I need a service manual for a Suzuki DB52T or one for a Suzuki F6A engine.
Any of you overseas guys have access to one?
Good luck, we're counting on you.
-
ROFLMAO... I just went mudding in it. Even with the skinny street tires, it is freaking awesome! I thought I buried it for a second until it grabbed a bite and pulled out of the muck. I gotta get me some tires on this thing! :D

Did it take a while to get used to the right hand drivers position?
-
Hey RPM,
I hope you know that we're just pullin yer leg... Your cute little truck is actually a fairly neat solution. The thing is, it's a solution to a problem most of us either don't have, or haven't had since we were age 5 :)
Anyhow, we're just kidding and you should have fun with yer new little truck. Once you get it blinged out, post more photos :aok
-
haha Yeah, that clip is fake, but awsome none the less
Yeah I know what the deal is with my truck. Im going to a 3.73 ratio this summer. I cant drive it in the power band because that burries the speedometer (only goes to 85). With the online ratio calculators and what not I have a 6.9% discrepency between indicated and actual speed. so that puts me at about 92 mph and rpms at about 2100 in OD. lol kinda rediculous.
-

Not really. The thing that keeps screwing with me is the turn signal is on the right side of the steering column. I keep turning on the windshield wipers to make a left turn.

I had that problem in the UK. One little brit car had the wipers on the left, the other one we bought after wrecking the first one had the wipers on the right. Irritating.

Happy Birthday! And don't run into anything head-on.
-
This day was good. I got up early and went to the junkyard. I found a set of 13" 4x100mm steel rims with brand freaking new mud & snow tires. They still had the whiskers on the tread. $100 for the set! :D
The 13" tires cut down on horsepower, but considerably increased my speed and lowered rpm's.
I also got an inspection sticker today so I am 1 step away from getting tags. Heading to auto registration in the morning.
