"A ruling by the state Supreme Court has brought an end to San Francisco's attempts to ban handguns in the city.
In a ruling Wednesday, the court unanimously rejected the city's appeal of a lower-court ruling that sharply limited the ability of localities to regulate firearms.
The ruling deals a final blow to Proposition H, an initiative voters passed in November of 2005.
The ordinance would have forbidden San Francisco residents to possess handguns, as well as prohibit the manufacture, sale or distribution of any type of firearms or ammunition in the city.
Only law enforcement officers and others who needed guns for professional purposes would have been exempted.
The National Rifle Association had opposed the measure, suing on behalf of gun owners and dealers a day after the measure passed."

Ripsnort said in one of those other gun threads- there's been alot lately- that it was a felony to conceal a firearm in your car and you'll (presumably) go to prison if caught, but that's not really true- as long as your gun is legal and you have no warrants, and you weren't brandishing, you'll be cited and released, and will in all liklihood get fined, and that's about it.
Dude, you got Alzheimers? I said in MY state, that if you brandish a weapon, licensed or not, it is illegal. :rolleyes:

Hmm....I wonder if that had any bearing on the remarks Obama made about rural America? Has he made any remarks directly related to this ruling? I'll bet his unadulterated, unpolitically expedient, unfiltered views on this would be most enlightening.

The best part of the whole afair was a SF gay group trying to ban the Golden gate bridge because more people die every year jumping off it then due to gun deaths or something like that.
Was pretty darn funny, even if I don't remeber all the details.

sirloin.. I believe that they do. They even had branches in other countries. Unfortunately.. they could do nothing to stop the gun bans in england as they simply did not have the support there.

That is pretty darn close the truth. I'm not sure it was a gay group, but they (city/DoT) went so far as to commission a study on the effects of adding additional netting, fencing, etc. to help stop jumpers. Keep in mind that right next to the GG bridge are 500 foot cliffs that anyone can jump off of as well.
If someone wants to off themselves, go for it. They figured out that only about 20 people per year do it. Contrast that with the number dying in automobiles and you're better off banning cars.

Actually, I believe that there is only 1 single gun store still left in San Francisco at this point. It is the old store that the late handgun champion and master pistolsmith Bob Chow owned and operated for so many decades. Here is the website:

Bob Chow was a good friend of both of my cousins that won National Pistol Shooting Championships at Camp Perry. He also helped teach me how to shoot a handgun, as well as advising 5 time Men's National Pistol Shooting Champion Steve Reiter. Steve moved to Sparks, NV many years ago, as California became so anti-gun, while I ended up here in Oregon.
If you are ever in San Francisco, you should stop by and give the new owner some kudos for keeping this historic gun store open, despite the nuts in charge of San Francisco.
California is planning some sinister new stuff, though. The latest will require the registration of ALL ammunition sales. You would even have to have a thumbprint taken every time you go buy ammo. All mail order and online sales of ammunition would be made illegal in the entire state. So no more buying ammo from out of state vendors. All sales would have to be face to face.
In addition, you would also have to buy an ammunition purchasing permit every 5 years. And then show that permit to the store, before they would sell you any ammo.

this is an new twist on an old and useless law.. there was, in kaliforia at least, a law on the books for many years that made you sign for ammo including drivers license to buy.. even thumbprints for a while...
In the decades that it was in force it caught exactly.. wait for it.. ZERO bad guys. the law was dropped as being an expensive and useless nightmare.

IN
