Title: Posting films
Post by: DREDIOCK on April 13, 2008, 08:37:16 PM
Why cant people just convert the films into a media viewable format and post em on YouTube or similar type place?

If I have to download it to watch it.
I probably wont.

Anyone else feel the same way?

Alot of people don't use YouTube because it has really bad quality. There is a way to get high quality films on YouTube, but I don't know how to do that.

And isn't watching films on YouTube also considered downloading?  :P

You download it from Youtube too. It's just a smaller download, thus enabling streaming. But the quality is horrific, even with the beast tweaking & quality settings.

And you can't control the camera angles etc.

No. because I dont have to save it on my machine then open up another program just to watch it.
Particularly another program that simply infuriates me every time I try to use it.

Though admittedly its been a long long time since I've tried playing with the AH film viewer.
Maybe they have improved it in the last year

Look at it from the posters' side:  if they have to take the time to encode it, they won't bother.

Thought it was a simple matter of "Save as"

Must be wrong.
Though I admit I have very limited experience witht he AH Film editor/viewer as every time I've tried to use it. Its done nothing but positively infuriate me.

User friendly it aint. IMO

1-time fee of 5min to learn it = unlimited frustration-free (save a few CTDs) use.

Must be your file associations or something, because I click on a film link like this T-Tues4-8 (http://trainers.hitechcreations.com/files/murdr/film395_0000.ahf) and I get the option to "open", "save", or "cancel".  If I click open, it downloads and AHFilm opens it right up automatically, and I watch it.

A short 3 to 5 min film can easily take 30 mins or more to encode. Then you have to screw with file sizes vs quality. Then have to upload a film that could be 50 to 100 mbs or more.

vs

uploading a film in the ah format that's only a couple mbs at best and allows the other viewers to watch from any view they want..

I'll give you an example.. I was playing around with making films..

This is the first one I made http://www.gametrailers.com/player/usermovies/117694.html

It ended up at something like 100mbs for a 5 min vid  that has crap quality (if I knew what I was doing maybe I could get it smaller)
On the other side the actual AH films was under 2 mbs.

To give you a better answer, if someone was to post an AH file, as an AH file it's so that the veiwer can veiw the film from every angle and from every players perspective that is included in the film, useually to prove whatever point it is their trying to make. ie... he ho'ed me, look at this menuver they pulled on me, listen to what they were saying etc...

AH films (Files really) can only be played on AH film veiwer and nothing else, what they upload as a film (movie) on utube are films they have created "from" Ah files, they have refilmed them useing "Fraps" or simalar programs that allow you to record as an "AVI" file and use in a program such as windows movie maker ,adobe, or vegas, these are the films they add music and or voice over, pictures and try to tell a story. these films can no longer be played on AHfilm veiwer as they are not the right file type.

The reverse is true with AH files, as they can't be loaded up on utube or other sites as anything but a downloadable file.

hope that explains it
