Title: Offline crashes
Post by: Pyro on April 14, 2008, 01:11:16 PM
The offline crashes on certain machines with Patch 3 is a memory allocation issue related to drones in the practice missions.  This will be fixed in the next patch and it has no impact on online play or performance.  In the meantime, you can try the following workarounds to get it running if you have this problem.  Try to turn off the texture preload options in your video settings if you have them enabled.  Also make sure that you have all unnecessary programs and processes shutdown before running AH in offline mode.  Anything that's eating up memory on your system may cause this problem to surface.  If none of that works, you're probably not going to be able to run it offline until a patch is released.  Finally, let me repeat that this problem is only in the offline practice mode and it has no effect on online play.

Are we talking short term or long term for a patch to come out?

Pyro:  Thankyou for addressing this issue.  I never would have dreamed a memory issue would have affected this machine.  Good luck on the patch and again thanks  blt280

Try to turn off the texture preload options in your video settings if you have them enabled.
My offline practice/missions crash every time to the "encountered error must close down" error.
I don't have the pre-load turned on but I had texture size set to 512. I thought perhaps the offline stuff needed to be set at 1024, so I changed it... no soap  :frown:
I guess I'll need to wait till there's a patch.

I only have the original practice missions loaded and I can run offline but it does take a long time to load. I recently got a icon in taskbar stating that Windows was going to increase my virtual memory.

Great stuff... 2.12 patch 4 has fixed the offline-crash problem (for me, anyway).
