Title: 109 Template
Post by: Motherland on April 14, 2008, 06:48:44 PM
This isn't a skin to be submitted, just my basic template. I used some new techniques in this one that I am wondering about. The weathering patterns are based just about 100% on photographs, and innacuracies in the default skin's panel lines were addressed (there were a surprising amount!). I still havent converted this into a 109G2 and F4 yet.

I may release the Panel and rivet lines for new skinners if anyones interested.

What program do you use? My template is in GIMP, not sure if you can open an .xcf document in other programs. I may have to load the individual panel layers as .bmps for you to use them.

Yea same here, Just have 1 problem with the skin that I am using on the net: I caint see the top of the wings. I'm pretty sure that the default is the same as the one I am working on now, but cain't be too sure.

If you put a template up, I BEG YOU take off all weathering, all efects. Just give folks outlines and panel lines.

Also take off your camouflage and markings. Leave national if you like.

A great portion of working on a skin is doing these tasks. You do them for somebody and all of a sudden you get cookie cutter skins (and that's a non-standard splinter camo, to boot!)

Give them the pixels to play with, but don't do it for them!

I agree. I enjoy making my weathering. Its just rivets and panel lines that I dont have the resources or knowledge to do from scratch.

Right wing, the 'Nicht Betreten' on the flap area is reversed. You need to flip it to be the wrong way on the actual skin template for it to come up the correct way on the skin.

I can't be sure but check the other warning on the right wing walkway  too, that needs to be changed also IIRC.

But of course! Im only putting out the Panel lines/rivet lines and balkenkreuz. Maybe, the factory markings?

Oh, thanks. I already corrected the right walkway.

Any criticisms for the template?

Leave off the factory markings.

One criticism: You need to define the area of the prop spinner better.

The spinners extend onto the tip of the nose left/right/top/bottom as well. This band spins 'round with the prop and should be colored appropriately.

Thats just so I can do the spinner as per the skin requires. The spinner you see is just the default spinner showing through.

There is something weird going on the underside of the fuselage just after of the oil cooler.

It's an oversight on all the 109s past the 109E in-game. You can map to these parts, and I have done it on the 109Fs I skinned.

You just need to block out these chunks on your "prop spinner" layer, whatever it may be called, so that when somebody sees the template they understand that these need to be painted the same color as the spinner.

Then when you make a skin, you also do the same, make them the same color as the spinner.
