Share your thoughts. Good or bad idea?
I'm going into Queens the day he arrives. Won't that be fun.

He's holding Mass at Yankee Stadium. That means the Yanks will win it ALL!!!111!!! :rock :pray
They told him to keep the pope mobile off the grass though. Someday I want to own my own pope mobile. I'd call it "The Bass Wagon" :D

I'm thrilled!
There are few voices left in the world that the media will broadcast that are good, true, and consistent.
I'm less interested in the media soundbites as listening/watching his addresses in their entirety.
EWTN and http://www.uspapalvisit.org/ are two places I've found that will show a good deal of his visit.
Also, for any who want, George Weigel's short essay is excellent: http://www.eppc.org/publications/pubID.3345/pub_detail.asp

I had tea with him when I went to visit Rome, well Almost ... he was within shooting range in any case ;)
Am nowhere near religious, but I have to admit I was impressed by his language skills. Spoke in 6 languages, almost no accent in the few I could understand. Doesn't happen often.
-
Not the most liked in his home country....
-
While not Catholic, I think his visit is a good thing. He seems to be a "modern" pope.
Angus...what is the problem back in Germany?
ROX

"what is the problem back in Germany?"
Too many Germans.

Thanks Hap, nice article.

I`m as about as thrilled as the day I broke my toe last year.
-
Now if it were Pope John Paul the second I would be listening. This guy is bland.
And Subway, you may be a teenager, but you forgot that there is only one Roman Catholic Pope in the world, not two.

I read in a newspaper over the weekend that all sorts of kitchy items are now being produced to comemorate the Pope's visit. The article spoke of some items and featured a Pope bobble head doll. The best though was the Pope Soap on a rope!!
-
Soap on a rope. Ha ha ha! :lol

I've just read his address to America's Bishops, highlighting sections that strike me. His words about faith and reason, as well as freedom are worth consideration.
His address to the UN will also be something I will read/watch attentively.
Agree or disagree, it's nice to hear a voice who cannot be lumped in with the "chattering classes."
-
I agree the visit is very important...
But, living in D.C. i gotta say, his presence has really wacked things out here. Traffic has been terrible... :huh :furious :)

It's a Public Relations tour to boost sagging interest in the catholic church by americans. Due to the scandals membership has fallen and a lot of the catholic schools are having enrollment problems also. It's nice IMO he came directly here himself to address the heads of the U.S. catholic churchs about the issues that have really tarnished the catholic religion. I'm not catholic but it seems like a good thing and hopefully some positive changes will come out of it.

LOL
Sure it is ... the Vatican tell you that personally?
I don't think his visit with boost catholic recruitment at all.
I do think his visit historic as good souls are getting fewer and fewer in this day and age of selfishness and greed.

See what happens when you run out of lions?
RTR
-
I didn't say anything about recruitment. The problem is catholics aren't going to church that much anymore and a lot are scared to enroll there children in the schools because of the scandals with the priests.

Pope warns against undermining U.N. (http://www.reuters.com/article/topNews/idUSL1564528320080418?feedType=RSS&feedName=topNews&rpc=92)
Pope can stick it where the sun don't shine, we don't take our marching orders from the UN...

Enjoy. He's been making traffic in DC even worse (if thats possible) than normal.
Wait till you see his car. Its a limo with what must be six solid inches of armor on the doors.
