I always thought the best way to smaller government would be to make election day April 16th.

While the pain is still fresh..

The Blob (our government) would never agree to that.
For exactly that reason.

Here's the deal:

We give them two years to switch to a flat tax, sales tax or combo of the two. If they don't make the switch, we quit filing.  :)

Didja see McC's comment on Happy Tax Day? He got it almost half right, which is way more then the other two that are eyeing your wallet the way a stoner eyes a twinkie.

It is not enough, however, to make little fixes here and there in the tax code. What we need is a simpler, a flatter, and a fair tax code. As president, I will propose an alternative tax system. When this reform is enacted, all who wish to file under the current system could still do so. And everyone else could choose a vastly less complicated system with two tax rates and a generous standard deduction. Americans do not resent paying their rightful share of taxes — what they do resent is being subjected to thousands of pages of needless and often irrational rules and demands from the IRS. We know from experience that no serious reform of the current tax code will come out of Congress, so now it is time to turn the decision over to the people. We are going to create a new and simpler tax system — and give the American people a choice.

I'm a nerd. I do my taxes the very day that I get all the W-2s in hand (*edit* okay, I give them to someone else to do on that very day, anyhow).

Actually, April 23rd is Tax Day this year.

The average American will end up spending every dollar that they make this year up through April 23rd on taxes.

So after Wednesday next week, you will finally be working to earn money for yourself.
