Title: Suggestions for this weeks Snap Shot, Memphis Belle
Post by: Ripsnort on June 19, 2001, 11:19:00 AM
First off, you best hope that the ETO terrain is done, the Norway terrain is too time intensive for the Allied to do a bomb strike in Germany,,,on that note, here are some recommendations I sent 10bears:

All these events are MUCH more successful if you have a shorter distance to travel.  A52 should be the Allied base for the 80% bombers taking off, P34 should be the shipping target for them, this gives the bombers 175 miles to climb, but keeps the frame under 1 hour.  LW should be rolled from A1 and A2 at their descretion to patrol the channel.

Muhahaha! Finally I'll have enough time to climb in my A8  :)

Memphis Belle Scenario would be very fun, doubt the bombers would survive as good as they did in the movie (for real?) though. Afaik they weren't escorted all the way.

I don't think they're escorted at all in this Week-ends snap shot...

This is the 2nd run (or third?) of Memphis Belle. First was successful and popular. Your right there is not any escorts, but the percent of Allies to Axis is 80/20. If I recall it was the "first" historical event we had where several buffs survived. Both sides had a good time.  :)

The write up is old and I think the flight time was about 40 minutes. I tend to avoid long flight times when I write events because I hate flying for an hour to bomb a target and be one of the first bombers to go down and don't even reach the target. 40 minutes is a bit more palatable. I can check the flight time this AM.  :) Of course if the ETO is out this week it is all moot.  :D

I tend not to repeat the flops. Hard lessons learned usually.  ;)

At the 12 line I was at 18,000 feet in about 20 minutes. I had to fly south for 5 minutes to get over the mountains. To get to the HQ in the 14,10 sector is about 35 to 40 minutes. I did not get past that because my 3 year old pressed my scanner button, closed AH and booted me to my desktop.

This is the link for the event off the calendar. I think it is the sfttr terrain. If we get the eto out by Friday I am sure the CM's hosting will use that.  :)

ETO is >< close to release. We delayed it long enough to get some coastal guns along the Normandy coast put in, and for NUTTZ to rework the tiles. should be worth the wait. It's in HTC's hands now, so either today or next week it should make it's appearance.

Might be fun to designate 1 buff as the Memphis Belle, and see if she holds up, or if not, who the German pilot it was that shot her down.

The ETO looks *fantastic*! Great tiles. Was a little dissapointed not to see the white cliffs of Dover in there <sniff sniff>, but I'll get over it.  :) For some reason when I think of aerial combat in the channel, I think of those cliffs.

Anyway - This event looks great!
