I hate assists.  Actually I don't hate but I think you should get something for them.  For example last night I had 8 kills and 32 assists and about half of those assists are planes that were going down and would have been my kill.  10 of those assits were of 5 eny planes too.  So the reason Im putting this is I was feeling like I was finally coming into my own in this game only to get no credit for it.  As you can see I was killing a lot of people(which turned into assists) but I wasnt getting any credit for it.  I say that we should be able to get some kind of credit for assists for example say I just shot someone and took off 1 aileron, 1 elevator, and his rudder but someone else finished him off.  Well lets say what I took off was 40% of the damage inflicted and what the other guy did was 60%.  Well the other guy would get the kill but I would get that 40% of a kill which would add up with my next assits which could be 80% and then say I get 20% well those 3 assists gave me a whole kill.  That way those 32 assists would be worth something.  Please post your comments

     I have heard many opinions about how the assist thing works.  I'm not sure who is right.  Before anyone makes a comment on this ....I don't really care enough to research it or worry about it. :O

     I do think that it is kinda worthless.  I have seen what looked like an untouched plane.. i.e no smoke or missing pieces... I got cockpit hits, killed the pilot, watched the plane explode, and got an assist.  I think thats wrong.  I have also shot the wing off of planes only to have the rest of the flock of "Mine,Mine,Mine" seagulls hit it about a hundred times on the way down and get an assist.  I also think this is wrong.  I have been in 1 v1 turn fights with hits here and there and some planes with a operator have come in like an elevator to blow the opposition out of the sky and I get an assist. :furious  I think that its backwards in that case. 

     An assist is like a good play in football.  The quarterback gets a notch on his belt when he throws a touchdown pass and so does the receiver.  Should be this way in here too.  One is caught and one is thrown, but they both count as points on the score board.  Equal points would most likely be the best alternative in these situations.  Might make a few people think before trying to steal a kill, as well as encourage team work.

You think the kill stealing is bad now?

When there are perks for assists people will follow wingless, tailless, fireballed, smoked, and god knows what else to the ground to get a credit.

No assists would be my vote over anything we have now giving more credit.

I don't care how many pieces a plane is in after my first burst, I fire till it explodes unless I have to dodge falling parts

Here's a novel approach...improve your gunnery skills so you actually hit what you're shooting at.  I seriously doubt all of those assists were a result of someone coming in and finishing off the plane you thought you killed.  More than likely you did far less damage than you thought you did.

This tour alone I have 96 kills with only 3 assists.  I just make sure that I fire at close range so all my rounds will do the most damage and virtually guarantee that I get the kill.

Well see I fly the K-4 and once I see someone going down I don't want to waste more cannon than I have to.  On most fighters the 30mm will take out in 1 and definately 2 hits except in rare exceptions

If you are hitting a plane with a 30mm cannon and only end up with an assist, I hate to tell you but you're probably missing with those 30mm cannons.

Yes, this complaint is plane/weapon specific.  As soon as I saw "K-4" I knew this wasn't a mere whine.  Very often in the K-4 you thump the target with 30mm, the wing comes off, the fuselage breaks in two, etc. and you get an assist.  Continuing to fire at that point, to make sure you get the kill, is just as gamey as the people who fire at wingless aircraft.

Still, the others are right that giving points for assists might cause more harm than good.

The real solution is to up the 30mm MK 108 to its true lethality. :t

Not if you don't fire the mg's at the same time.  Come on, give him some credit.

(I can specifically remember a night where I had 5 assists in one sortie while only firing 30mm, no mg's.) :lol

I shoot the plane until it looses a wing. Then I follow as closley as possible all the way down, so if the Killstealers want it they'll have killshoot first  :D
 
I think that assists should count as something, maybe half the perks it would count if you got a kill on it?

Not even half maybe 10%....and that is a good idea about following the plane down to insure your kill. I hate doing all the work to have some jack a@# swoop in and get between me and the plane i'm fighting with and all I get out of the deal is a damaged plane because I was firing when he swooped in.

Seems to me that if an entire wing or both elevators, or the tail have been shot off, then there ought to be code to prevent the possibility of kill stealing, which I presume at this stage there isn't. The plane that shoots off a wing or elevators, or tail, should automatically be locked in the system as the one that caused the catastrophic damage and be awarded the kill, even if a dozen others shoot at falling wreckage. Maybe the time delays on the internet prevent that, I don't know.

Shared-kills

If the first plane only shot off an aileron and one elevator of an enemy, and a second plane shot off the other aileron and the other elevator of the enemy, then there could be "shared" kills like WWII. No one gets an entire kill, and for simplicity, you might only break down to a half-shared kill and one third-shared kill. The first one, two or three that cause damage get kill points.

If you ping it a bunch of times and still shooting it, and some guy comes in and takes his wing off while I was working on him, I'll just keep shooting the guy until he crashes.

I think I've got this one licked. 

-The first person to get hits on the plane regardless of damage gets the kill. 
-If someone swoops in on a CQC fight and helps/steals the kill you would have an option after towering or upon death to award an assist or the kill to the helper/stealer. 
-No points would be detracted from the kill and points would be awarded at your request for the assist or the kill.

     I think this would encourage asking before jumping in.  Squadies would be more likely to wing together and encourage team work. People would want to help out a person that always awards points as opposed to helping people that don't award them.

     The only Con I see to this is planes with lower caliber weapons sets going out to ding up as much as they can just to get the kills.  But I think that this would be a mute point if people winged together more

     As for the GV guys this should not apply unless there is substantial DAMAGE (not hits) done buy the AC.

Cool. I just can buzz high speed through a furball and just ping planes. No need to try to actually take them out, as most of them are sooner or later killed by someone else. I could rack up dozens of kills per sortie in a P51 that way without ever having actually to shoot someone. Picking Deluxe! Pray & Spray! No aim needed anymore!

This is what I think will happen if you get something for assists......

Dweebs will make a full time career out of engaging 1 wing AC to score a few fraction perk points.This is the only way for them to get any coz their acm sucks so bad.
If you want the kill to yourself then flying in a horde is not going to achieve that. I have seen countless engagements where 75%+ of the defenders chase off 1 guy leaving the few disciplined guys to do the real work

Nope.  Even as it is now, I'll sometimes get the first hits on someone, then let them go, knowing that when someone else finishes them off later I'll get the kill.  Sure, once in a while I only get the assist but more often than not I get the kill with almost none of the work but I do enough damage to assure myself the reward.

Why let skilless people claim the kills when they obviously aren't adept enough to cause the most damage?

You'de get people B'n'Zing through a furball hoping for one lucky ping on as many ac as possible.  Does that qualify them to be rewarded for the kill?  I think not.

This is kinda my point....Boom and zoomers can have their fun but their gonna get disappointed quickly when all they are getting is a denial on an assists.  Same could be said for your argument if they get there first... but it is kinda like 1 st to hit gets the kill anyway.  In the war kills and assist were detrmined buy the guys after watching the films or just on visuals.  Just saying it would be nice to be able to allow kill/assist awards or denial based on the conduct of a player.  This would kinda make the game more honorable and spur up some comradery amongst the people that play the game well to begin with.  Imagine being able to say yea man I pinged him first but you took him out heres your kill..... :salute  Like that guy is gonna forget a six call the next time he see's you.  Squadies would live for this stuff.... :rock

minke your missing the whole point.  Assists would be awarded buy the guy who gets the kill.  If they are honorable then they may even give the kill to the guy who actually saved his arse. :aok

If the aircraft has only one wing then they are not going to get points, because the guy watching him go down after he has made him wingless will see it and not award points to the chaser.
