Could a G5/AS be skinned as a 109K4? It has the 'ballooned' section around the breaches of the MG131's, like the G10/K4 has, as well as an Erla hood and a tall rudder.
-
Have to decide if you want to match it to the performance curve more, or the weapons packages more. Tough call. I'd say good chance HTC will accept it as long as you spell out why (justify) your choice when submitting.

I think we have a g-14 (Black 14) that is was actually a g-6/AS in real life. Fencer may have done the skin.
Edit: skin is 2/JG3

The performance is so different that I would suggest not doing it.
It's too gamey.

That's correct.

I was under the impression that the AS G5's and G6's had very good performance?
-
High altitude performance, yes, but as far as I recall they're nothing like the K4 performance wise.
The way I'm looking at is that there are many other K4s to be skinned before we start slotting other aircraft in as K4s.

AS versions had similar performance as regular g-5/6 up to about 20-22k. Significantly better performance above that.

Bf.109G-6AS is a high altitude performer.
It is my favorite mount in IL2 for high altitude work.
The N2O injection to the air intake is superior to the WM50 for high altitude use.

Just doesnt look right as a G14...

Ill post a profile tomorrow. BTW, the pilot is Gruppenkommandeur of II/JG11, Gunther Specht.
Oh, and I have the WkNr for this aircraft, too... where should that go on the G5/AS? Right above the horizontal stabilizer, like the G6?
-
Must say, it looks better on the K-4.
-
K4s never featured camo patterns like that.
If anything, submit it as a G2. It's like I said, there are lots of K4s to be done... It doesn't make any sense to force a G5 onto a K4 when there are still so many K4s to be done.

Gotta concur with Xasthur. Its not a good fit for a K4.

As a G2? It looks almost nothing like a G2- it has the 'ballooned fuselage' for the MG-131's, and Erla hood, and a tall rudder, and was probably equipped with a Mk-108, considering it was in an Reich Defense unit during mid-1944. A G2 has none of those things, including MG131s. Plus, the fact that we dont have any RLM74/75/76 109K's in game only makes me want to do a stand in even more :lol
The removal of the G10 kind of makes it hard to do /AS aircraft. Excluding all of these so we can skin the late K, which I have found very little photographs of and most profiles I found are already done, doesnt make any sense IMO. Lots of very good looking aircraft that would add a bit of variety.

Any other sources ID this as a G5? I've seen sources showing G14s with all these things, included the bulged hood. It could also be a G10. Just curious.

A G14 with a ballooned cowling would most likely be a G14/AS, I think.
-
The G-5 was closest to the G-6, especially in performance and firepower, it was only above 20-something K alt (mentioned above) that it improved this performance.
I say the weapons match a G6, the performance under most alts it will fly in AH is the same as a G6, it was closest to a G-6 in timeline.
Just do it as a G-6. It really is the best fit. G14 is the only other alternative, and that's just for the erla haube.
Ignore the bulged nose for the MG131s, and the rest is basically a G-6.

That seems right. It also adds to my curiosity about whether this could be a G14/AS vs a G5. I've done very little research on 109s, but most of the features identified I seem to remember as being G6 and later.

This couldn't be a G14/AS, as its to early- the G14 didnt get to the front until August, the profile is from April. I think I'm just going to scrap this one, I dont really want to do another G6.
