Title: S.A.P.P. Declassified Files: Sneak Peak at new AH Wiki
Post by: Ack-Ack on April 20, 2008, 02:45:31 PM
In accordance with the FoIA, we are releasing another batch of our declassified files.  The file we are releasing this week are the files we gathered during our sneak peak view of the AH Wiki.  Under much duress, HiTech agreed to give S.A.P.P. an early sneak peak of the upcoming Aces High Wiki site.  My first impressions were, "whoa, a Wiki?" but after seeing the site myself and getting to navigate it a bit, I realized the Wiki site will be a good idea, a central location for all the information we S.A.P.P. can use to funnel our vast library of knowledge to you, the peons.

Enjoy and remember that this is still a work in progress and HiTech has been gracious enough to let us "leak" this information out.

Only when it's contrary to their view I've found <BG>

But since we are all in agreement that S.A.P.P. is just plain awesome, they won't have any disagreements with its accuracy.

What makes you think that the crew at HTC aren't part of SAPP?  Have they ever denied it?  Why do you suppose my 38Gs are almost unbreakable?  Do you know where Hitech got his craving for Craggenmore Scotch?

SAPP has ways..... :noid

Of course it's a secret so don't tell anyone ;)

Your ammunition is made of depleted uranium and your P-38s are made of titanium. All SAPP P-38s have auto-lead computing gunsights. You also use rocket fuel.

After S.A.P.P.'s successful Anti-Squadron measure which resulted in the online arenas being split up, S.A.P.P. decided to capitalize on their success and ordered HiTech to close down the H2H arenas indefinitely on 8/27/2007. While funny, posting on a public wiki discouraging remarks about HTC's customer base is sort of like a knife in the back.  I would think that those who developed and run a game that most of you find enjoyable should be treated a little better in a public forum.  But I guess that's just my opinion and those who like to bite the hand that feeds them can do whatever they'd like.

It's just a joke, man, it will be gone in less than a day! Just like when, I don't remember who, edited the "Persona non grata" page on Wiki, inserting what happens on these boards when the Skuzzinator is in action.

Take it easy, I'm sure people at HTC are. ;)

Actually you're creating more work for those at HTC.  Who do you think has to re-edit it or initiate a restore back to the original document?  I'm guessing the company that is referenced in the article.  Granted anybody can go edit it again, but this little joke costs the company image points and time spent having to fix it.  I'd rather have them focused on improving their product.

actually, HTC does not appear to have nor care to have any control over the wikipedia wiki.  That is public domain, and as such the public need to be properly informed.

also, 99% of the people looking at that wiki already know about Aces High 2, or are currently a player.

Hopefully they don't know about the conspiracy though...  :noid

We have no control over our Wikipedia entry and it would be against their conflict of interest policies for us to edit it.

The AH Wiki will be a different story and we want the format to flourish.  That won't happen if we don't take it seriously.

I just saw that the Wiki page for AH has been vandalized.  Some of the page (prior to vandalism) was written by me.  I did it on my own time to do something helpful.  I have my own life, job, time, etc. and don't in the slightest like seeing jerks vandalize the page causing work for others, such as myself, to clean up.

For those of you who know the people who did this, I ask for your help in discouraging such vandalism.  I ask for you to step up and to help take care of it.

Why is it there are so many losers in the world who think it's funny to crap all over other people's efforts?  For every person who does this sort of stuff, I wish something they invested time in would be screwed up by vandals so that they could get a little taste.

Well, did Brooke every find out that this wasn't the actual AH wiki page that SAPP played with?

Are his/her panties unbunched?

Did he ever find his/her sense of humour?

Will Mark and Jenny finally kiss?

Next week on ...As Aces High Turns?

Yes, it was the English-language world-wide Wiki, not the AH-only Wiki -- I wasn't ever confused about that.  I contribute from time to time to various articles on the world-wide Wiki.  I'll do the same on the AH Wiki when it's up, but I won't get confused on which is which.

My issue isn't with humor.  My issue is when people mess up something I work on and cause me extra work to deal with it.  If I knew people would go clean it back up in a couple of days, I wouldn't have gotten as angry (althogh there is fallout work as explained below) -- but there was no way for me to know that.  In fact since almost never do people who mess things up go back to clean up, there was no other reasonable assumption to make.

For example, let's say I go spraypaint stuff on your garage door.  Could be some humorous phrasing, some true literary gems and maybe a rude graphical depiction or two (always good for a laugh), but I'd bet you'd assume that you'd have to get your butt out there to repaint the door yourself.  Likely, you'd be peeved at having to do that.  Of course, I could come back in after you repainted it and say, "Hey, don't be miffed.  I was going to come back and fix it if you hadn't beaten me to it.  Also, did you figure out yet that it was your garage door and not the welcome mat out back?"  Then your wife notices that the garage door is now a slightly different color, decides that the house shutters no longer match the garage, and pulls the shutters down for you to repaint and to remount.

Anyway, I'm over it, but the fallout is that moderators are now in there (attracted at times when there are editing wars over pages), noticing that some of the images are not correctly annotated for source, and yanking the images out of the page.  So, I'll go in, try to establish correct annotation to the old pictures or add pictures that I can annotate myself (as they are my images), or whatever, to get the page to be decent looking again.

Hmm I can see your point..... however your comparison is way off as no physical property has been damaged. Here in Texas you can shoot someone spray painting your property at night.... if the dog doesn't get him first. If you change an unsecured site... well.....

As I was telling Skuzzy in another thread, I never use wiki (was meaning wikipedia) as the couple of times I have been there much of the info was incorrect or suspect. In searches I pass any wikipedia links. H e said that would not be the case here for AH, so we'll see.

Great reply Brooke.  Had nothing to do with what I was talking about, but the analogy rocked.

SAPP inspired wiki entry:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aces_High_%28computer_game%29

HTC "official" wiki entry:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aces_High_%28video_game%29

If you were to search for "Aces High" in wikipedia then the second "official" entry is presented.

But it would appear now that someone has tattled, they both point to the same entry.

The comparison seems apt.  If I have to invest my time as drudgery (whether it is 30 minutes of work on physical property or 30 minutes of work on non-physical property, and regardless of whether you value the property or not), it's all equally annoying to me.

Thanks, Yknurd!  (Now I'll be off to paint and remount the shutters. :) )
