Great flick if you haven't watched this film yet it is a must see. :aok
Amazing Job Kermit!
-
A most excellent film :salute
This past Friday was the gathering of the remaining Doolittle Raiders. 6 of the 11 still alive attended the event, this year in Addison, TX. I would have given anything to attend myself.
A big salute to the men of the greatest generation. :salute

Great stuff Kermit. Always nice to see when the history bug has bitten someone too :)
-
I just got done watching it. Wow! Excellent job, Kermit! I am very impressed -- the look, the shot composition, the music -- it's all great. There are amazing touches in it -- even Doolittle's flight off the CV looks like shots I've seen from historical footage. Thank you very much for this!
-
Kermit.....very very well done! The making of Doolittles Raiders took a great deal of time. The information in text as well as picture is very informative. You and those who participated in the making of Doolittles Raiders are a credit to the community.
I for one am very proud of you all. It is on par with Not my time to die, the story of Robt. Johnson.
Again.... the preservation and telling of History is invaluable. You have done so with the making of that film.

url wont work for me, just keeps loading page for like 5 hrs

AWSOME!!!!!!!!! :aok :aok
Started the download last night before I went to bed and was able to watch it this morning before I came to work.
:salute to everyone that participated in making this film. I'm sure there are a bunch of bomber crews in heaven right now smiling, knowing that what they did is still remembered.

finally got it to work. GREAT VID KERMIT <S> <S> :salute :salute :aok

Nice work Kermit. This should go with the Aleutians movie, on HTC's homepage..

Fantastic film loved the music :)
-
Kermit, how did you select the music for it? Was it music you knew of, or did you listen to a bunch of stuff and pick it?
-
Kermit, all I can say is WOW... i think I cried a little at the end... great vid, great storytelling... good shots, music, editing.... i think my favorite shot is the flyover of the carrier in the story and again at the end.. an instant AH classic...
-
I agree with you and I think Kermit mentioned it was his favorite shot as well.

When I read about this raid last weekend, I knew that this was special. The courage and heart those men had when those engines started up must have been through the roof! I was really moved by their story of what they did in their lives. I read about one of the survivors that was captured, went back to Japan as a missionary for 30 years! That's just amazing. Or how the ones that made it to china and then back to US continued to fight in the war over Europe to be captured by the Germans and still survive the war.
Hell, they never took off from a carrier before, not even during practice. Doolittle must have been very confident to be the first one, and to do it in bad weather amoung many other factors. It's just amazing as to what they did and why they did it despite the immense odds of living through it. Their leader was an incredible human being. Wish I could have met him in real life. Maybe someone could get one or two of the Doolittle raiders to the AH Con as a guest.
Guppy, this is your fault! Thanks for always helping us all out with remembering history.
Brooke, I listened to a few hours of songs on monday night while I did research.
Many of us lost hours of sleep that Tuesday night of filming. I'm glad they didn't try to kill me when I said to "do it again" occassionaly. The Film Viewer was not used to make this, as I would have gone insane if I tried to use it. Offline was not used either, it's fubared on my end. We did the best we could do, in the few days we had to get it done by last friday, April 18, 66th anniversary of the Doolittle Raid. A moment of silence would have been nice for last FSO, but I never got around to letting them know.
<S> from 4440, A8Niskey, Betty, Blue, Condor00, dtis30, DUGY, Kermit, HB555, Hibbie2, Strip, RDRTrash, WannaB and xSHAUNx, we all say thanks for watching and remembering The Doolittle Raiders.

anyone else getting '509 server bandwidth exceeded'?
-
Sorry, my server is down. I had gigs of bandwidth this month and they all went away in hours.
May have to wait until next month to see the film, which sucks. Hundreds of downloads at a nearly 300mb file size = byebye server bandwidth.
There's something I didn't think about. Doh!
Edit:
Nice of HTC to redo those ships, making them look awesome!
I'll take the time to learn the AHFV someday.
We thank you all for watching. <S>

Try vimeo?
Edit: Nevermind ...vid quality sucks after upload.

I'm interested in a 40-line explanation of the whole process (i.e., not just a few sentences -- more detail than that -- but not such a large amount that no one will tell me :) ).
-
Hey Brooke, yeah, I'll write up a story from beginning to end of this project later on this week. I need my fix of AH for awhile, since I've been deprived of it. :lol
Give a salute to 4440, A8Nisky, Betty, Blue, Condor00, dtis30, DUGY, HB555, Hibbie2, Strip, RDRTrash, Wannab and xSHAUNx when you see them online to say thanks.

2nd Edit:
I'd like to see your write up Strip.

If he doesnt post shortly I will post something more specific.
Edit LOL....he beat me to it.

Holy cats, don't know how I missed this. I just downloaded and watched this masterpiece start to finish, eyes glued to my screen. I think this might be the finest AH-related effort I have ever seen. Has HTC seen or commented on this? Its a big download but a link to it certainly seems appropriate in the "Now Playing" section of their main webpage.
Honestly, my highest commendations to you, Kermit, and everyone who assisted you in the making of this film. Job well done!

brooke.....here is my short but sweet version....
we all waited for the air races to be over, kermit logged in sayin " this should only take and hour or 2" (anyone in kermit world knows that hour or 2 equals 6 hours miniumum) we practiced taking off of the cv, i finally learned to back up a b25 on a cv. so after everyone practiced it was time to get everyone in place. i acutually was able to parallel park my b25 but still have trouble doin it in my car (not needed where i live much).
one at a time we upped with kermits orders after he was ready to roll film. we all kept ourselves entertained while waiting for our turn. after everyone lifted we flew around the cv waiting for others to up as we all upped we would form up on those already in the air. the NOE part was the hardest. kermit wanted us in a single file line...DIDN'T work....but he was able to get the shots he needed.
keep in mind by this time it was already 4 hours into the filming.....2 hours my butt...damn frog..
anyways one at a time he called us in to do a shot of us coming up to the land. giving us different orders each. i was the b25 that was NOE over the trees that popped up to 1500ft to bomb. it was cool shot after i watched the movie i was able to pick out my flight :)
it was alot of fun, we spent long hours, then like a week or so later kermit had us back in there for a "hour" aka frog time "4 hours" to do some other shots with the zekes chasing the b25. not to mention the bombers on the runway doin their "training" when the b25 flew over the field. that shot was awsome!
kermit yelled at me cuz i couldnt turn my zeke :(
i tried but kept knocking my wing off. so i kept tryin and still didn't get it. by this time everyone was dying to shoot each other down. it was all we could do to behave and get the filming done and over with :)
im sure kermit will have a better story but this was my point of view. it is always fun to help kermit with a film, first one i helped him with was "carrier sortie" that was awsome and i dont remember but i think i wasn't yelled at much in the makin of that film either. i could be wrong.
<<S>> kermy, the doolittle memory will live on through each and every one of us that has watched this film. i am sure if they were able to see this film that they would be proud and honored. it was a pleasure to help with this film and be a part of it. a great group of guys helped in the filming of this movie and i would wing with them any day. <<S>> 4440, A8Nisky, Blue, Condor00, dtis30, DUGY, HB555, Hibbie2, Strip, RDRTrash, Wannab and xSHAUNx

dude this film is too big for youtube i think dont they have a limit on the mb's you can upload? this film is like a million mb's ;)

To make it stream for dial up users, the video quality would be very poor and the small words would become unreadable.
Film was meant to be seen and heard in it's high quality.
To really experience all the film has to offer, you should listen to it at high volume and with large speakers with a subwoofer.
Some sound examples:
You'll hear the winds blowing by the camera when out at sea, as the B25s are taking off, or the waves crashing on the B25 that ditched on the shoreline. The AAA whizzing by and the guns on the ground firing, the navy whistle blowing to let you know someone is about to make an announcement right before Jimmy himself talks about what they are going to do in case they are attacked before takeoff. The navy ships firing their guns sound was taken from the game and then sync'd up with the old video. Regan's speech at the end fit right in as he used to be a narrator for WWII films. Many of the sounds were erased and redone so that it would sound better, but without anyone being able to noticed that they were touched. When the b25s were ditching, that was filmed from another plane, so I had to put in many sounds to make it sound as if I was in the plane at the time. The scraping on the ground, the engines turning off, all had to be added in during the editing in. These sounds contributed to the storytelling and no one seemed to notice the touch-ups. That's a good thing. 99% of the sound effects were taking from the game or waffle's sound pack or other sound packs giving to me via email, one sound file at a time, and all were slowed down, or speed up and also filtered in an equilizer for added bass or to remove high freq noise.
For those on dial up, start the download before you go to bed and in the morning it should be done. For those fortunate with cable or dsl, it only takes 6-20 minutes to download.

Hard drive (HDD). CPU is the processing brains, not the long term memory.
Kermit, Youtube supports that 720p HD format nowadays.

Hello Kermit,
I watched, and it was simply great Sir. It brought that uncomfortable burn you get in the back of your throat and misty eyes when you see what these heroes did. I send out a big salute to the Doolitle Raiders! :salute Thank you Kermit for the reminder of why I was interested in Aces High in the first place. It is because of stories like the Doolitle Raiders.

Update your codecs.. CCCP, or K-Lite, or some other pack. Someone else probably knows for sure what the latest and greatest is.
