Post by: Ripsnort on April 21, 2008, 12:34:50 PM
Snoqualmie Pass will stay open to an unprecendented date of May 5th this year.  :rock Record snowfall in WA state in 2008.  :rock

On that note, it snowed this past week-end in the Seattle area, also a record.  :rock

Go Global Warming!  :rock

Global warming or lack of infrastructure and over population?

Lets be careful to seperate the two....

No the food shortage is due to global warming in a way. Because of all the global warming folks demanding we reduce our use of fossil fuels we're now using up tons of food crops to produce ethenol. The UN just had a big meeting about this.

WTG to all the chicken littles out there. You wanted to save humanity by not burning oil, your starving them by making us burn our food sources. BRILLIANT!!!!!

My exact thoughts when I heard this report last week.

Yep coldest/longest winter I can remember here in the NW< but we have needed the snow pack for awhile now.

How this turned into food shortage thread, I'll never know  It does remind me of Sam Kinisons stand-up comedy, where he was talking about starving people. He said, you are living in a desert.... you have no food.....you are starving to death....of course theres no food....... you live in a f@#king desert!...it hasn't rained in forever....move to where the f@#king food is!

lol

You didn't listen hard enough.  GW is being blamed for the failure of a number of staple crops across the world.  There is no doubt that ethonol/biofuel production is also to blame also, but man-made or not, GW has contributed also.

Immediately labelling someone a chicken little is about as silly as:

1.  Listening to a UN report and ignoring anything you don't want to hear
2.  Asssuming that snow still being on a mountain, or that one cold spell, discredits the whole idea of GW.

I'm not a proponent of the man-made climate change theory (I don't believe the case for it has been proven), but climate change whatever its root cause is happening.

Cherry picking at the evidence is not only unscientific - it's stupid.

The places experiancing the food shortages have always had food shortages. Global Warming has nothing to do with it. If you live in a desert, food doesn't grow to well there. Add to that that the people that do live there want to breed like rabbits and all of the a sudden the food shortage becomes a food crisis. I can't make the leap of imagination that my driving my truck around is killing some poor kid someplace in Africa because I'm making the planet hotter somehow.

Man made Global Warming is a joke. The problem with this planet is that there are WAY too many people on the rock. Cut the population by half and guess what??? Plenty of food to go around then. Alot less polution in the air, water, and soil. This planet NEEDS a major catastrophy and sooner or later mother nature will deliver one for us. Everyone wants to worry about saving all of human kind, how about we consentrate on getting rid of the ones that contribute nothing to the species. The 3 strikes your out rule, should be JUST that. You get convicted 3 times for a felony, instant death sentence.

I could go on but I think you get my point. If people are causing the problem then lets get rid of some people.

Let hundreds of thousands of people die of starvation?

Are you serious?

As long as you aren't one of them I assume?

Dear oh dear.

Yes I'm serious. If the planet can't support the population then what else are we supposed to do?? I'm not being morbid, I'm being practical. What do we do? The population on this planet has DOUBLED in the last 50 years. What's it going to be like 50 years from now? Modern medicine has people living well beyond their normal years. Advances in food production allowed for rapid delivery of quality food to millons of people that wouldn't have had it. What did those people do?? They started having kids left and right. The population has grown faster than our ability to supply for the basic needs of too many people. It sucks but there it is.

food production is higher in warm climates.. what we have is a very mild and warm period in our climate history.. it has been very good for the planet in general...  food production is up 15%.

course.. if you were to read the infamous newsweek article on global cooling on 1975.....

http://www.denisdutton.com/cooling_world.htm

"There are ominous signs that the Earth’s weather patterns have begun to change dramatically and that these changes may portend a drastic decline in food production – with serious political implications for just about every nation on Earth. The drop in food output could begin quite soon, perhaps only 10 years from now. The regions destined to feel its impact are the great wheat-producing lands of Canada and the U.S.S.R. in the North, along with a number of marginally self-sufficient tropical areas – parts of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Indochina and Indonesia – where the growing season is dependent upon the rains brought by the monsoon.

The evidence in support of these predictions has now begun to accumulate so massively that meteorologists are hard-pressed to keep up with it. In England, farmers have seen their growing season decline by about two weeks since 1950, with a resultant overall loss in grain production estimated at up to 100,000 tons annually. During the same time, the average temperature around the equator has risen by a fraction of a degree – a fraction that in some areas can mean drought and desolation. Last April, in the most devastating outbreak of tornadoes ever recorded, 148 twisters killed more than 300 people and caused half a billion dollars’ worth of damage in 13 U.S. states.

To scientists, these seemingly disparate incidents represent the advance signs of fundamental changes in the world’s weather. The central fact is that after three quarters of a century of extraordinarily mild conditions, the earth’s climate seems to be cooling down. "

The UN is a clown act.

The food shortage is not from using crops for fuel, it is because so many countries have leaders getting rich off the donations of food to their country. All the while the people of those countries starve. Many times you see these starving folks with lots of children. Wonder why? Why would anyone bring a child into such an impoverished mess? Those folks believe in having many children in hopes of one or two may survive to carry on.

We need to find a renewable source for energy because oil is limited. Regardless of the global warming pundits and chest thumpers.

There is plenty of food to go around.

Natural forces (be it Mother Nature, disease, or other) will impose its will upon us and adjust the natural balance of how many the earth can sustain, we need not worry about that.

In the meantime, enjoy what you can, while you can! I'm going spring skiing this week-end!  :rock

You forgot the part where they turn down 40 tons of wheat, in the middle of a famine, because of misinformation from environmentalist scare mongers.
