Manfred Freiherr von Richthofen was killed in action over Sally-le-Sec, France. :salute
With 80 victories to his credit, he was the world's leading fighter pilot at the time.
He and Oswald Boelke came up with many of the ACM tactics we still use in the game today.

101 years ago today? :huh

Yeah - they died buggering each other senseless in a big boche gang bang. Their wives then took to the skies 5 or 6 years later, but you couldn't tell because of the facial hair and faint odour of pork fat.

Lets try 90 years ago.

His younger brother probably would have surpassed him if the war had gone on longer.

So much trivial propaganda .
He wasn`t much of a stick.
Snoopy took him out with a dog house.
-
:salute to all fallen warriors. Snoopy out flew me out too, but I finally got him with a dog bisquit and a choke chain.

Well......the doghouse was overmodelled.

The real question is....should it have been perked?

for sure a good stick, airplanes where just discovered imagine that! :salute
beside that, the new WW1 movie "Der rote Baron" just started in theatre here!
After seeing Flyboys this is the movie i waited for, more info here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0365675/
A german production, no hollywood ;) i hope for more onboard camera perspective views, and not
that much 3rd person views like in Flyboys. It looks real but the feeling is like watching a PSX3 game.

The airmen of the day sure were a special bunch.
Not only could they fly their crates, but could also tell their enemies from thier friends without icons and in black and white only. :salute

There are many 'What ifs' from the first world war.
What if Mick Mannock had claimed all of his kills? What if he hadn't shared kills with his flight? What if Albert Ball wasn't killed? What if Voss hadn't been gang banged by 56 Squadron? What if Boelcke hadn't been killed by a ace pilot?

Von Richtofen was a cold hearted hunter, both in an aeroplane and when on the ground. From what i have read, the only close relationship he had was with his dog. He was outstanding at killing 2 seaters and aircraft on the fringes of the fight. Brown shot him down (or not as the case may be) in such a situation. He brought down sixteen B.E.2's, thirteen F.E.2's, eight Sopwith Camels, seven R.E.8's, five Bristol fighters, five Spad VII's, five Nieuports, and fewer numbers of nine other types. He was a great squadron leader like McCudden, Mannock or Goering. He did not have the sublime skill in a dogfight such as Voss or Ball.
-S- to the most famous aviator ever to have lived.

Edward "Mick" Mannock was a great Squadron leader. He cared more about encouraging newer fliers, by letting them finish up his kills, then his own glory.
