Title: Tiger lower hull access hatches
Post by: captkaos on April 24, 2008, 07:55:00 PM
I am trying to find out what access hatches were on the bottom of the hull of a Tiger, their size, their use, and if a man could fit in one.  My instinct is that with a torsion bar suspension, any hatch would be for arms only.  Any help from those of you that know far more about this than I will be greatly appreciated.

As you said there is probably no room for an access hatch and none visible in this picture.

Maybe there is one in Panther? I remember too hearing that some tank did have a bottom access hatch.

I believe due to the torsion bar suspension, there was no room for bottom escape hatches, i.e. Sherman.

Thanks for the link.  That is the problem with tanks, no one takes pictures of the bottom.  By the way, the Panther does have access hatches on the bottom, but not made for anything more than an arm to reach in and do work.
