Title: n00bs i/b Main Arenas
Post by: MajIssue on April 25, 2008, 10:04:33 AM
I was watching "Dogfights" on the History Channel before I left for work today and saw the Aces High commercials twice! Look for an influx of "numbers guys" in your gunsights soon!!

BTW the graphics on the spot looked almost as good as the graphics on the show! Nice job on the spot Hitech! :salute

The commercials are on pretty consistently now. I usually see them 5-6 times a week if I watch the Military channel.

That's where I discovered AHII a couple of months ago.  But I spent about a month offline getting used to it, reading the forums and all the doco/write-ups I could find.  I've been online for a few weeks now and started paying at the beginning of April.

I can't wait for the noobs to jump in...I could use some easy kills, as I still pretty much suck.  :lol

What is the deal with the new guys not having enough imagination to come up with a decent handle anyway? :huh One of my squadies when he first started was a numbers guy, but after 2 days of flying he found the perfect handle. We now call him Auger. :rofl

It amazes me as well that you can't get a handle other than numbers...

If I recall it right, when you sign up you are asked for a handle using alphanumeric characters.
Many folks think that's just numbers ;)

When did the first commercials air for Aces High?? I remember seeing back in the days maybe mid-late 90's and wanting to play but never had a pc that would be worth playing on.

As for the handle, i spent 10 minutes trying every name i could think of but they were all taken. I ended up with Tex01 and really didn't and don't like it, it just worked.

I still am confused with the Numbers dudes. My first ID was BuddyR, then my second 1 was Plus44. And now it's 1pLUs44.

I atleast added letters to my numbers.  :aok

I wondered why Lazer suddenly went from #1 to #11 in fighter rank. I looked at the scores and found:

Looks like a big rush of new players  :D

yes....for those of you that are good, they'll make good targets.........but don't forget too........when they're asking questions, try to offer them help, besides the "ALT-F4" thing, or telling them to go to the training arena. they'll make better teammates, and better fights if they're enemys. there's a lot in the MA's i see just elling at noobs......we all were once

Well said CAP1... a little help goes a long way... But you GOTTA laugh sometimes. Last night while I was engaged with trying to escape the entire NitWaffe in a Pony-D, a new guy (I think his gameID was something like (81765543456650098) comes on range and says (and I quote) "I can't make my wheels come down"! I nearly augered I was laughing so hard! I replied that the "G" key would lower his gear if he was flying slow enough, and later suggested that a quick glance at the help page and a session in the TA would be time well spent.

I think a lot of players don't understand the importance of the name until they've actually played the game a few days.  I know I didn't.  I started getting a lot more six calls when I changed my in-game name from Urthona to Earthdog.  It can be important to have a name people can pronounce.  I know I got tired of always being called Urethra :)

LOL.. I did a bad job then for sure. I think Widewing was the only native English speaker in this game ever to pronounce my name correctly  :D

Once again i'll say it, ALL new players should be required to spend 30 min in the TA at a minimum! Before they can access any other arena's mandatory 30 min in TA. I'm not your trainer or babysitter in the MA's! I will help you in the TA but in the MA's i have other priorities. Constant questions that can be easily answered in the TA are annoying in the MA at the least. And don't get me started on the ones that just pop a join message on you when your in a fighter. The TA is set up specifically for the task of educating these people yet it's rarely used till they get forced to go there which is sad as if they went right off the get go there first experience in the MA's would be much more pleasurable. Questions like how do i launch, how do i set up my joystick, how do i use vox, ect ect... These could all be answered and handled by trainers quite easily.

And whos's gonna "babysit" them in the TA? There's not always a trainer on, and a huge part of the day there are not even experienced players there to help.
At offpeak hours I often see people just answer "Go TA", which is basically empty at that time, instead of at least directing them to webpage help, or (even better) to the Trainer Coprs site.

If you dont pay attention when signing up you can mix up log in name and in game handle. it happened to me when I signed up a few years back.

most #'s guys think that their # ID was just the password to log in....not the in game name
