In short the Maoist rebels have won the national elections of Nepal and the king will be dethroned after a 240 year-old monarchy. In 2006 a peace deal between the Maoists rebels and the Nepalese government was signed, ending a decade long civil war which left 13,000 people dead. Currently the Maoists are considered a terrorist organization by the US but that will probably change fairly soon. The Maoists will rewrite the nation’s constitution and declare Nepal a republic.
