Title: Last night
Post by: BaldEagl on April 25, 2008, 01:35:28 PM
Last night I was flying a bunch of different planes as I tend to do.  I started out in the A6M5, moved to the BF109F-4, then the P-39D and ended up in the P-38G.

So I was flying the P-38 and ended up chasing a 190 on the deck.  He was stick stirring and I was trying to lead his erratic movements when I slapped the nose into the turf and died.

Dissapointed with myself, I typed the infamous one-liner into 200 text; "Nice stick stirring" to which I got the response "Nice auger".

So I upped my next, like new, P-38G to give it another go.  I managed 3 kills then ran into a P-47.  By then I had one engine smoking but never one to leave an enemy unvanquished, I engaged.  We went around several times and I hit him twice but not catostrophically (sp).  Soon, I saw the red hoard approaching on radar and since I already had 3 kills, was alone in the area and had an engine smoking I egressed the fight and headed toward home.  Less than a minute later, my smoking engine finally died.

Then I got a PM:

"Was that you in the P-38 I was fighting?"
"Yep"
"You rtb?"
"Yep, dead engine."
"See, I didn't have to stick stir"
"Nope, and I bet it was a lot more fun for both of us"
"Yes it was"
"I was just using the 190's roll advantage"
"There are other, better ways to use the 190's roll advantage"

This lead to a short discussion on 190 tactics and a <S> from both sides.

I'm not sure what the moral is to this story but what started out as a mild exchange on 200 turned out to be a good fight and a good discussion.

This has happened to me on a few occasions and I sort of enjoy when it does.  I guess it's in the turning something bad into something good.

Just thought I'd share it.

Well I can kinda see how his maneuvers could look like a stick stir. I do the same thing when I fly a 190 and have an enemy on my six. I'll use the roll rate to change direction as fast as I can, while looking back at the plane on my six. Once I get them out of phase with my turns I'll either try a vertical maneuver, or chop power and try to force an over-shoot situation depending on what type of aircraft I'm fighting against.

Good story all things considered, and you got a good fight after it was all said and done :salute

I remember how ticked off I would get when I died to BadlEgl.  Part of the reason I have detuned 200 because I was too tempted to type something that would bad and get muted, reported, whatever else happens to us naughty folk.
In time I just learned to smile and laugh to myself about the issue and can always count of getting a <S> from BaldEgl as he is one of the more respectable guys in the game.
Don't need to stick-stir to have a good fight.  :aok

Always kill a stick stirrer, and always call them on it. Injury + insult = win.
