I've been having this problem since I built my new computer. Every time I try level bombing I lose UDP and get discoed after which I lose all Internet connectivity until I re-boot. At first I thought it was just with the AR234's but it's the same with any heavy bomber in formation. I've tried with AR234's (discoed 12 so far this camp), Lancs (discoed 3), B-17's (discoed 6), Bostons (discoed 3).
All of this has been trying for city targets. Sometimes I can hit the first of three building groups before I disco, other times none at all. I can fly a single Boston in low or a Ju-87 with no problems. I can fly over with a fighter without problems. I can drive in with a GV with no problems.
I've tried lowering my audio acceleration, turning off my security suite in parts and entirely, changing my video card settings, running only one of my two on-board nic cards, running both independently and running them both bound. I've tried from alts ranging from 16-23K.
Other than this high alt level bombing bug I can play for hours without issue. My system runs at it's max refresh rate at full graphic detail without ever slowing down.
Considering I like to play the whole game, losing 1/4 of it is really bumming me out. I spent 6 hours trying to fix this tonight. Pretty boring after that much time in buffs but I really want to get this figured out otherwise it might just be time to finally say adios to AH.
I'm not running any custom sounds or skins and the single sound file in the AH root directory is exactly the same file size and date as on my other computer.

Sorry to hear its still happening Bald - not sure what to suggest tho. Could you do a dxdiag and post the first 3rd up here (or send it to Skuzzy). Did you try copying the sounds folder from your old computer across?
Hope you dont leave, enjoy flying/fighting with and against ya fella.

In all liklihood it is due to the rash of damage messages coming to your computer in conjunction with Comcast's network manangement.
Run a Ping Plot. It should show packet loss at near the last hop, whcih means the packet loss is happening on the return trip. I'll be able to check that out and post the results.
If you are behind a router, you may need to power cycle it.
-
You try deleting AH and reinstalling it? It could be a corrupt sound file.
I also see this Mobo has onboard sound ... you might have to Disable in Windows or better yet, disable that in your Bios. Sometimes it is automatically disabled when you insert a sound card. I found it is better to disable it in the Bios, then powerdown and then install the Soundcard.
Can't say for sure if this is the problem, but that's what I would try if all else fails.
Edit: Have you tried this off-line as well?

Edit: Have you tried this off-line as well?
If your problem doesn't happen off line, disregard my sound card advise.
-
The onboard sound is disabled. I did that manually in the BIOs before installing the sound card. This wouldn't happen off-line as, without being connected I couldn't lose UDP, thus all my testing has been on-line.
I'll D/L PingPlotter after I wake up :) and post the results. I'm guessing I can do it with the free version? What is the AH server address? Never mind. See the addy in the sticky above.

Here you go. I pinged both LW servers.

Creative has been outsourcing their driver / software work for awhile now. It's garbage.
They are having serious issues with that card and the audigy.
Most are vista related but many are XP related.
If I were you, I would try physically removing the sound card, do as one said here and remove those sounds (not sure which or how but it's in a thread or skuzzy could tell you), personally I would reinstall AH2, keep the sound card removed and then try the game and see what you can do then. Obviously vox is disabled to so you will have to blow some people off when they talk to you etc.
I've been reading articles whereas some people think that crashes are caused 80% of the time from sound cards. Couple that with flaky video drivers, ram, games coded not optimally or in AH2 case - very heavy amounts of extreme code going through you system - and that can push your system over the edge.
Dont expect event logs to show anything either. They are pretty useless for some of the big questions in computer troubleshooting.

I tried uninstalling and re-installing the game today. No help.
I flew 3 B-17's over the city (at 100%). Was attacked right over target so I was in the rear gun. Killed the guy, passed through the ack then turned around and dropped. I got 1 building then discoed.
-
After patch 4 I could not run the game at all. Roll-back to older Creative (X-Fi) drivers helped. I have Vista.
Before patch 4 I could not get my mic to work at all after installing the new soundcard driver, but in other progs it worked OK so I guess the new drivers were just crap.

run ping plotter longer. Ping every second for like 5 minutes or so. You have too small a sample to see if there is a problem. I'd even start it, login to the game a try trashing a dump. Just for giggles to see what it showed.
-
I tried a run on my old machine just now. I've never had this problem on that machine, although I've re-formatted and re-installed everything since I last tried.
The mission, in B-17's, went off without a hitch and, since it's wired to the same router usiing the same Internet connection, I now think the issue is internal to my new machine. I'm just rtb from that mission now and need to decide what to try next.
-
First thing that springs to mind if your not getting the problem with your old machine - copy the sounds folder across. This will prove whether it is a sound causing the issue or not.
Also agree with Charge, it could be a driver causing the issue. Hope you get this sorted out fella,

I had a similar issue with 234's over enemy ship groups with my new machine (about a year ago).
Had some funky graphic issues with 640mb 8800gts I put it down to those drivers being dodgy or corrupted on first install. I went through a 2 week period where I played with so many different things I can't say which one worked.
Make sure you follow skuzzy's duo core instructions to the letter.

Well, tonight I tried giving AH first packet priority in my network set-up. I wasn't holding out much hope and rightfully so. Same result.
I guess I could try older versions of first the sound card drivers, then the video drivers tomorrow or I could pull the Nic card from the old machine and install it to see if that works unless Skuzzy checks back in and has another idea .
I have to believe that, in a way he's right; it has something to do with getting back the massive amount of damage info over those city targets but it's not connection (Internet) related. As soon as I get the first packet, my connection dies. This leads me to think that the onboard Nic's aren't working properly.
What a PITA!
Thank *** the Knight's don't care about defending their city. I've flown over it about 20 times the last two days and only been attacked once.

I think your problems have to do with Level3 being in your path along with Comcast's network packet shaping scheme.
I assume you are not behind a router, or if you are, you have already power cycled it.

I am behind a router and have not power cycled it recently but as posted above, I didn't have this issue when I tried a run on my old computer which is plugged into the same router.

Once again, read my message about your sound card please. At least try it mkay?
Physically remove it, then try. (remove the drivers and software!)
Hey what else ya gonna do eh?

Tonight I uninstalled my video drivers and went back to those included on the set-up disc that came with the card. I also uninstalled my sound card and it's drivers, verified that the on-board sound was disabled in the BIOS, then re-installed the sound card and drivers.
I tested on-line with the sound card set to game mode (I had been running it in entertainment mode) and with my grahics settings at application controlled (not a pretty sight). It was better. I got the damage messages for the first 15 buildings before I discoed (I have been getting 0-1). This was in Bostons at 16.5K with only 4 bombs each.
I then went off-line to mess with the video settings (antialiasing, etc.) to get the game to look better and decided that, as long as I was there I'd try an off-line test. While I was at only 10K and my flight path across the target was different, that test went off without a hitch, over-filling my screen with destroyed building messages. This was with anti-aliasing set to 4x and antioscopic filtering set to 4x.
This now leads me to believe that the problem has little to do with my sound or graphic hardware/software or my net connection (as my other computer on the same router works fine), but in the amount of information handling allowed by my on-board dual network adapters. As I turn graphic settings down, as tonight, I get more damage messages before the inevitable disco. As I turn graphic settings up, as in my other tests, only one or two messages overload the adapters.
I don't know where to turn to try to tweak these adapters as the nview set-up only allows me to bind/un-bind them or to set first packet priorities. I haven't checked the BIOS yet or for any Windows tweaks. Any help?

Disable the onboard adapters and try with a card network adapter?

Bald, by dual network cards, do you mean you have 2 in there, and both are plugged in??? (Sorry if this is a stupid question). That could mean that your machine is getting info fast than it can process it - causing it to drop both cards -
Try going to: Start > my network places > view network connections and disabling just one of them - then retry maybe?

BaldEagl,
I disabled my second NIC in BIOS on my board. When I was going through and cleaning it up, I disabled things (e.g. IDE) that I don't use and decided there was no need to have the second NIC enabled since I wasn't going to use it for anything. I recommend you do the same. It may not be your problem but it is a good thing to do.
Hope that helps

Yes, there are two, they are both plugged in and they are currently teamed to act as a single connection (Nvidea recommended configuration).

Ok, may well still be worth disabling just 1 of them fella - you never know.

I'm curious, does that mean your PC is seen by AH as 2 IPs?
-
I'm curious, does that mean your PC is seen by AH as 2 IPs?
No. I think all AH sees is my router IP. My router sees the two bound network adapters as one network IP, even though they take two ports on the router.
If I map my network I see the router, old computer, new computer, laptop and network printer.
That just gave me an idea. Maybe I should try re-installing the adpter drivers.

Recommended by Nvidia....for what?
Do you have a Nas device with 5 ultra fast drives in raid on the network with gigabit or dual nics?
Are you pulling down from an oc3?
Are you doing heavy client / server work on a similar unit on the other end of the network?
If you answered no to any of these, then the 2nd nic serves no purpose.
In short 2 nics serve 3 purposes (there are more but I'll keep it simple)
1. Load balancing (what you have setup)
2. Failover (one fails, another picks up)
3. Nic 1 Internal IP address (private network) Nic 2 Outside address (ie: web server) (although I don't recommend this - a dmz should be a true dmz)
I'm gonna bet you are doing none of these either?
Ok that said - when are you going to follow my instructions and REMOVE your sound card completely, including the drivers and software and LEAVE THEM OUT, reboot the machine one more time - then load AH2?
If AH2 demands you have a soundcard talk to skuzzy about getting around this but I dont think it's an issue.
You MUST remove some hay from the haystack before you can find that needle. Disable one nic, remove the sound card and try all of this.
You may have IRQ conflicts, or - probably just toejamty sound card drivers. (my bet)
REPEAT - DO NOT remove it, readd it, THEN launch the game. REMOVE THE SOUND CARD and do NOT put it back in. Have a friend take it from you to keep you from trying to troubleshoot this game with a poorly designed sound card. MAKE SURE YOU DONT HAVE ANYTHING EXTRA attached to the computer. Remove ALL usb devices that you can live without for the time being. Just pull them out. Got anything else you can rip out of your computer that you don't need to use? Rip it out! Narrow the problems!
If you still have problems after this:
1. Run a memory checker / system stress tester. Google for these. Memtest86 and I think...ortho? are the names. Be sure to have a smoke detector charged - probably no worries but just a little disclaimer :) If your computer shuts down or crashes - then you probably have PS, MB, CPU, or MEM problems. Run memtest86 again. If not this, then you could try another PS first. But it's up in the air what to try next. I personally would rip the fan off my cpu and put some artic silver 5 down, blow out some dust and possibly swap some power cables.
2. If you pass all of these, make sure you don't have anything else plugged into the wall outlet other than what's needed to run your computer...then backup all your data....then, reinstall windows. :( Honestly, please - let the sound card, disable the one nic in the bios or at least in device manager, any extra stuff and resintall windows. Then update your windows, update your grafx drivers, then download and run ah2. I'd be very surprised if it fails at that point. If it does, I'm calling bad motherboard. But my guess is IRQ conflicts / crappy sound card. If you narrow it down to a sound card you could always try moving the slots it's in inside the computer. You could try this first but it may be moot as your crappy soundcard drivers will have phantom hooks. I personally would reinstall windows if I were you with almost everything removed. Run bare bones and move up from there until you find the problem again.
-
You really need to shut off one of thos Ethernet ports and try it. There is no reason to try and run bonding like that. I can see it causing all manner of network related problems.

I've been trying to reply to this all day but it won't let me copy in my reply for some reason although we have been having some Intenet issues here at work today.
