You know I've got to the point I really don't take much interest in my guns. It's really hard to understand, because I was a good shot in the service, and while I was in law enforcement I was a firearms instructor.I surely wouldn't spend anymore money on firearms,I don't shoot the ones I have.I was going to get in S.A.S.S....single action shooting society, but I lost interest. So now I have a sawed off double barrel 12 gauge shootgun,a nice 6 inch barrell Schofield with about 18 rounds thru it,and a CZ 75,that I've never fired.I at least clean them now and then, but I don't go out to the local range at all.I guess all my time messing with guns in the service..law enforcement, caused me to be less enthusiastic with firearms.

I must agree with IronDog.  When you're forced to spend time at the range to keep your job, it's no longer a fun experience.  I use to enjoy it, now it's a necessity.

P.S.  It's gotten to the point where I enjoy reloading more then shooting.

P.P.S.  If I were to purchase another, it would be a Smith & Wesson’s 329PD .44 Magnum Lightweight Revolver (http://www.gunblast.com/SW329PD.htm).

The next firearm I would like to get is an M-14 in .308 (7.62X51) I know Springfield Armory has one that is nice.

Right now I have to many projects, not enough safe space, and live in Commiefornia.

I did not buy a gun for myself recently, but I purchased one for my son yesterday.   It should arrive at his FFL within a week and a half.

One of his friends has a Remington 700 in .22-250, and he really wants to get one too.   Since he mainly plans to use it on Jackrabbits and Coyotes, I figured that the 700 LVSF model would be the best one to get for him.   This is what the rifle looks like:

And here is an overview of it:

http://www.remington.com/products/firearms/centerfire_rifles/model_700/model_700_LV_SF.asp

Total cost of the rifle with the Nikon Monarch 4-16x Scope for it, rings and bases for the scope, and various shipping costs for everything will be about $1,250

However, my son will be putting $550 towards it.   So it will not entirely be a gift.   I will only be out about $700.

There is something about "The Judge" that makes me believe that it would hurt a lot to be shot by one.   Perhaps it is this image of a Judge being loaded that makes me believe this:

I can sympathize with those who have a safe full.. so do I and.. it seems that a lot of em just don't get shot much.   I shoot my 4" ruger redhawk in 44 mag a lot.. my Kimber gets a workout.. my K22 gets shot a lot and so does my new Henry big boy in 44 mag.. I shoot the Garand as much as I can and an old sporter nazi 8mm.

bout 6 or 8 of my guns don't get shot much but still.....

I would like to buy a 1858 remington black powder revolver.. don't know why.   Need to sell my house and buy a place with some dirt so I can shoot in my own place more than I need more guns.  need to build a shop on it to so I can tear into some hot rods... life is short and I have lots to do..  I have never been able to understand anyone who claimed to be bored.

What I should buy is a new furnace and press and dies and such for making bullets.

Oh.. a cool thing for in the house is colibri super quiet 22's  20 grain bullet.. primer fired at 500 fps...  doall bullet trap...   1" groups at 30 feet with an old K22 masterpiece standing.

Plus.. I can make some silver bullets for the damn vampires and werewolves my girlfriend tells me about.

When I met her she was afraid of guns... now.. she wants to shoot and she makes sure I have a gun with me on whatever nightstand we find ourselves in bed by.

She could also just simply dump you and go off to the United Arab Emirates and live with Sheik Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.  He ordered a custom Audi, and had the entire car PLATED WITH PURE SILVER!!

So if she was driving with him, he could simply run over any werewolves that they might encounter on the road.  Here are some photos of his custom Audi:

On second thought, though, she might not like the way that women are treated in that part of the world very much.   So I'm sure that she would definitely be much better off with you right here in the USA.

And at least the men around her here in the USA will be wearing pants.   Unless, of course, you are a Scotsman.    :)

I own way too many guns myself, so I'm currently putting 4 like new hunting rifles up for sale soon: 2 in .243 Win, and two varmint rifles ( one in .204 Ruger and one in .22-250 ).   I just simply own too many guns, and have never really got around to using all of my rifles.   While I really love the .243 Win caliber, my love affair with it has ended up with me now owning 4 rifles in that single caliber alone!!   And that is sort of ridiculous.   So you can easily tell that I have gone overboard in buying guns.

It is an addiction perhaps as bad as some drugs.   Although, I must admit that I would not know that from experience.

Next firearm purchase gonna be a carry gun, possibly a Sig Sauer P225. Now all i got to do is locate one. Buddy of mine has one and it is a great SD gun, quick from the holster and big front sight.

After that id like a Lazzeroni chambered in 7.62 Warbird with a Swarovski scope

bbgmaw.. keep in touch..  when the housing market picks up a bit I will sell this overpriced monster of a duplex I built way back when and buy some place where the neighbors don't mind gunfire and hot rods.

Thing is.. one thing leads to another..  if I start casting again then I will probly need something in 45-70 or so to get the most energy out of the lowest velocity..   nothing like a 450 grain slug going 1400 fps or so.  shoots like a rainbow but.. what it hits..

For a 22 pistol you should look into a good smith K22..  or even the newer 63 or 4 or whatever it is.   or get an old high standard victor.

I would like to get (in no particular order):

Para FNFAL
AR-15 (I would like to do a retro A1 build)
One of the AKs

The AWB issues in the state and county cause me to hesitate a bit until some current issues are decided. Though I will rush out if things come to pass where the grandfather clause becomes a motivator. I also have a second child on the way and the possibility of going to one income and with money in the bank NOW... might be a good time to get at least one rifle and pistol before hard times set in :)

for pistols

XD45
A nice .22 like the Ruger Mk III

I saw a nice used featherweight Taurus .38 revolver at the gunshop that appeals to me for some reason even though you can't carry in IL.

Try the CMP Airhead. Best deal and delivered right to your door. Same with Ammo. Can get carbines now too. A few extra hoops to jump through up front, but easy and inexpensive once the paperwork is done. You get a Garand for about 200 under street price. I think the service grade is a great deal, and field and rack grade are cheaper and certainly adequate.

I may actually get another Garand first.

That was actually my idea too. My mom wants a pistol but has a weakness in her shooting arm so she needs something light. My only concern has been the recoil because the pistol is so light, though I imagine it is not too bad with regular .38 special.

Wow, I may have to figure out a way to get one of these.

Are these considered collector pieces? Is that why they are delivered to your door?

I've always wanted a Garand, but thought they were way out of my price range.

Like most Garands these are not strictly speaking collector pieces (except the CMP correct grade) since they have been rearsenaled and are not "all matching." But they do hold and appreciate in value and will always be sought after as collectable shooters. The history and service is there, as is the "Garand Ping" :) A real "original" Garand would be too valuable to shoot, and all of the remade originals out there have, IMO made true collectables suspect unless you are talking something like a gas trap Garand.

US parts were not number matched to the weapon as was the case elsewhere, but the parts were mfg stamped. During regular maintenance parts would be swapped out with whatever was on hand and they were reparkerized at various times, the barrel replaced, etc. making them not original in collectors' eyes. There was/is quite the hobby in finding an original barreled receiver then adding parts from the appropriate mfgs to basically remake the weapon to a faux original status. A waste of time, IMO, especially since you kill what history the original rifle had.

You do have to jump through a few hoops with CMP, but nothing too challenging especially if you are prior military and have a DD214 on hand.

You must provide proof of age. Usually proof of citizenship also provides proof of age. In those cases where it may not, a driver’s license is sufficient.

Membership in CMP Affiliated Organization
You must provide a copy of your current membership card or other proof of membership. This requirement cannot be waived. The CMP currently has over 2,000 affiliated organizations located in many parts of the country.

You must provide proof of participation in a marksmanship related activity or otherwise show familiarity with the safe handling of firearms and range procedures. Your marksmanship related activity does not have to be with highpower rifles; it can be with smallbore rifles, pistols, air guns or shotguns. No proof of marksmanship required if over age 60.  proof of club membership and citizenship required for all ages.
NOTE: Proof of marksmanship activity is not required for purchase of ammunition, parts, publications or memorabilia.

Be Legally Eligible to Purchase a Firearm
The information you supply on your application will be submitted by the CMP to the FBI National Instant Criminal Check System (NICS) to verify you are not prohibited by Federal, State or Local law from acquiring or possessing a rifle. Your signature on the Purchaser Certification portion of the purchase application authorizes the CMP to initiate the NICS check and authorizes the FBI to inform CMP of the result. IMPORTANT: If your State or locality requires you to first obtain a license, permit, or Firearms Owner ID card  in order to possess or receive a rifle, you must enclose a photocopy of your license, permit, or card with the application for purchase.

Order Form and Purchaser Certification and Agreement
Order forms and other required documents may be downloaded from http://www.odcmp.com/Forms/1orderform.pdf. For those customers who receive our hard-copy catalog, we recommend they make several copies of the blank form for use in placing future orders. Customers should complete both the Order Form and the Purchaser Certification and Agreement and sign it before a notary. Orders received without notarized signature will not be processed.

Great deal, and great organization that promotes marksmanship in the US. And yes, they do deliver to the door. The Fed Ex guy got very familiar last year with heavy boxes of Lake City and Greek 30-06.

The judge is one of the few firearms that has come out recently that I would have no interest in owning.. that and maybe a 500 SW.

the judge because it is too big for it's puny power and the 500 because it is too small for a rifle and way to clumsy for a handgun.

Wrong. The new Judge is chambered for 3" mags.

Well, except it does not appear that this new Judge is even available yet.   It is no where on any of the online auction sites.   Taurus does not even list it yet on their own product pages as being available.  No product reviews yet of it even in any magazines.  And that usually happens at least a couple of months before a gun is available on the market.

So while you are correct that this new 3" chambered model has indeed been announced, I see absolutely no evidence that it is in the hands of shooters yet.

hey!

I was referring to taurus' website...  http://www.taurususa.com/whatsnew/revolvers.cfm  says new version fires both 3" magnum and 2.5" shotshells   :rock

Ah, OK, I was looking on their actual product pages, where it is not yet listed.

Sounds like while this new model has been announced at this point, that is all.   I can find no evidence that it is yet available for sale.

Some companies are good about not pre-announcing new products too far in advance.   Others, though, are not so good about that.

Anyway, thanks for pointing out that this new model has indeed been announced.
