How about that:
Halder as the Chief of General Staff OKH concentrated the following Wehrmacht and Luftwaffe forces for the operation:

16th Army (16. Armee) (Ernst Busch)
4th Panzer Group (Panzergruppe 4) (Hoepner)
18th Army (18. Armee) (Georg von Küchler)
Air Fleet 1 (Luftflotte einz) (Alfred Keller)
Army Group Centre (Heeresgruppe Mitte) (Fedor von Bock) staged in Eastern Poland with (49 divisions):
4th Army (4. Armee) (Günther von Kluge)
2nd Panzer Group (Panzergruppe 2) (Guderian)
3rd Panzer Group (Panzergruppe 3) (Hoth)
9th Army (9. Armee) (Strauss)
Air Fleet 2 (Luftflotte zwei) (Albert Kesselring)
Army Group South (Heeresgruppe Süd) (von Rundstedt) was staged in Southern Poland and Romania with (41 divisions):
17th Army (17. Armee) (Carl-Heinrich von Stülpnagel)
Slovak Expeditionary Force
1st Panzer Group (Panzergruppe 1) (von Kleist)
11th Army (Eugen Ritter von Schobert)
Italian Expeditionary Corps in Russia (Corpo di Spedizione Italiano in Russia (CSIR) (Messe)
6th Army (6. Armee) (Walther von Reichenau)
Romanian 3rd Army (Dumitrescu)
Romanian 4th Army (Constantinescu)
Hungarian "Fast Moving Army Corps" (Szombathelyi) known as the Korpat Gruppe in the Royal Hungarian Army.
Air Fleet 4 (Luftflotte vier) (Alexander Löhr)
Staged from Norway a smaller group of forces consisted of:
Army High Command Norway (Armee-Oberkommando Norwegen) (Nikolaus von Falkenhorst) with two Corps
Air Fleet 5 (Luftflotte funf) (Stumpf)
Numerous smaller units from all over Nazi-occupied Europe, like the "Legion of French Volunteers Against Bolshevism" (Légion des Volontaires Français contre le Bolchévisme), supported the German war effort.

Now remembering that the axis lost the battle of moscow by something belived to be only Zhukov's thrust of 10 divisions, how many would you think they left behind when they launched Barbarossa?

One riot..one Ranger. ;)

I have given you a link of this before, but that was of a specific page in the site. Maybe you didn't see that it actually holds the complete order of battle, not just for Germany and Soviet Union, but also of other countries.

Or were you asking what the strength of each division etc were?

[hijack] If you read any Texas Ranger books look for William (Bill) McDonald. He is a blood relative of my Wife's. Texas Ranger Hall Of Fame has a statue out front of him standing in chaps and rolling a cigarette. Just inside the front door is a painting depicting Bill charging towards a huge fire with a bucket of water, below is a caption coined by one of our presidents, "He'd charge Hell with a bucket of water."[/hijack]

Not so, it's a complicated matter when it comes to oher countries, for instance Italy tweaked the divisions by making them smaller! Well, Mussolini made more divisions out of it!
Anyway, for the riddle, as far as I dug, the Germans had some 80 divisions stuck elsewhere at the start of Barbarossa. All the way from the Arctic down to the med. Mostly tied down, but some already in the med as well due to recent and happening operations.

-sigh-
If Hitler had put all his panzer groups in Army group center .. we'd be speakin German now.
Just my 2 copper, from 'playin' wargames decades ago ..had the chance a couple times to do just that..
..knife thru butter applies :)

sort of a "what if".. yay for the ivans. the germans made good soldiers and hitler was a <expletive>, and even if the nazis were too stretched to fully commit to it.. barbarossa was a godsend for the western allies
the nazis may have been kind enough to let some of you guys in the north exist as their pet poodles, speak their lingo, and let you eat that funny tasting cabbage but if the japs had of prevailed in the south i'm pretty sure i wouldn't be around to munch rice, chew on whale blubber and do oragami in my spare time. coral sea has a nice ring to it, but it's so underated

FYI, there was only ONE western ally at the time of Barbarossa.
And that funny cabbage (widely used in the USA in the 30's) is actually quite tasty with smoked sausage and potatoes.

i dunno how you come up with only one western ally. cause and effect.. barbarossa effectivly ran from '41 to '45
and i guess you have to like cabbage. i don't.
