In the top pic, I believe that is the destroyer Hammann which was sunk in the same torpedo attack.
-
Wow! our torps look nothing like that on impact! when are we getting this HTC!
<S> to all those poor souls who faced that

You realize thats not a real pic right?

Of course it's not real. Looks mighty explosive, though :devil
-
So ... who made the pictures and why?
-
Pretty sure it wasn't the Luftewaffe.
-
They look similar to pics of a layout I saw in an old Time Life book I have on the Pacific War. Small models with cotton formed into geysers. Although these look more like a painting than they do 3 dimentional.

Looks like there might be some photo-shopping in the first picture as well, adding in the half-sunk destroyer.
Take a peek at the shadows, as well.

I would hardly call the pictures 'cool'.
-
They used models alot back then to simulate the large scale naval battles in a way that the public
could understand. If you look at the scale of the torpedo explosion to the ship, you'll notice how out of
scale it is.

Agree. But, some would rather "ignore" the blatant and disrespectful ways and point out "errors in the photos."
-
But if it was say ... the Akagi instead of the Yorktown, then it would be cool right?
-
Dang right! :aok
-
I rest my case. :aok
