Title: Dear HiTech,
Post by: EskimoJoe on April 27, 2008, 07:26:39 PM
In the past, you have said it is one of your goals to add every aircraft that flew in WWII, into the game. What happens after that? No, I don't want WWI, or Korea. Maybe you will have added Combat Tour by then, maybe there will be a dramatic surge in players. Who knows?

HiTech, what happens next?  Will you improve the graphics drastically, to near real-life quality? Will there be 100% realistic weather? Animated water? Amazing lighting affects? Shock-wave affects for ground and water?

There is still a longggg way to go before that question even becomes viable... ;)

I know that I will never be able to afford the computer to run it. :huh

What happens next, is the same thing that has happened for years. They'll do something, and people will squeak about it being wrong/stupid/shortsighted/insufficient. Rinse, repeat.

Having said that, Korea might be pretty badass.

If a Korean War version comes out that would mean finally having to make the B29, so it will never happen.

Aside from that it would also have a pretty sparse planeset compared to WWII.  Obviously the attraction would be mass jet vs. jet combat but that might prove to be more of a novelty in the long run and turn more into all the jets BnZing all the poor P51s, F4Us, and F80s.  Basically what we have now, just fewer planes to choose from.  But if a Korean War arena did appear one day, I would sure as hell give it a shot.

I don't know why you would say that. HiTech has NEVER said the B-29 will not be added. In fact he told me just the opposite at the 2006 con when I had a chance to speak with him. It might be one of the last planes added but he said he wants it in the game at some point.

I would play a WWI version of AH.

a graphics update is probably the farthest from reality,  what kind of insanity would lead to the decision to update the game with graphics that are even comparable to average circa 2003, much less anything remotely current..

Maybe, but we wont be in wirbys on the ground. Bring on the sam sites and big time AAA!! yeee haw!!!

Wasnt a whole lot of gv action in vietnam, i mean there was, but.....

mig 15's, 17's, 21's, 105's, f4's, a7's, a8's, spads....even a new role of rescue, lets being in the choppers too, would be different and interesting to be sure. oh and last but not least, for all you buff pukes that like the heavys and really wanna gun stuff up, c-130 gunships(think they were 130's) . Lets roll with some b52's for serious hi alt runs. Thuds and phantoms setup for the "wild weasel" roles, anti-radar/sam missions before the main strike groups arrive. There sure wouldnt be any more screaming about ho's with 1500 to 2000 knot closing speeds and missiles. To be accurate for the era, we gotta make some of those missles duds too, happened a lot back then.  May make the game mechanics more about strategy instead of how things are now, but players always find the least path of resistance in any game, but at least NOE was a much more historic and realistic apsect of war than it was in WW2 me thinks.

I would love to see an accurate representation of vietnam in a game.

What do yah say to that Hitech?

Greetings,

WWII had a large variation in the types of airframes available.  WW I had at least an equal number of airframes.  That would be my vote.  Red Baron on an Aces High scale!  Cool!  Bring it on! (wait....what would I do without cannon?)  :O

Regards,

I can guarantee you he's never said that.  Please post a link to such a proclamation.  I don't think you realize how many planes fit that category.

careful what you wish for.  This game is fun because of what it is,  Wana see what a WWI set up would be like?  Take your squad in the DA and fly in D3As for a few days straight.  Korea?  Just fly 262s all day.

I think this game is designed fine.  Graphics, more plains, damage models, TOD, maps, Strat etc, yes, please do keep developing.  You guys remember what happened when Coka Cola changed their formula right?

Don't break it, Don't touch it  :lol

Not really Sullie.  AirWarrior had a korean arena without the B-29.  They had the Vader but by the korean war the A-26 was redesignated as the B-26 Invader.

All the Best...

I don't know why you would say that.

Said it as sort of a joke since the B29 has been desired since before AH even launched and we've still yet to see it.  Also based the statement on the fact that the B29 did not show up in the user vote a while back despite how much it is requested which would suggest a lack of desire by HTC to produce it.  Or they just wanted to avoid developing a large aircraft as opposed to a smaller one.  But if HT told you he'd like to have it in the game then great.

I doubt the AH bomber drivers would let the same thing slide quietly here.  I mean really the B29 in Korea was out of date and a sitting duck for the MiGs, not nearly as super as it would be in a WWII setting.  My initial comment was more of a joke anyway so no big deal.

I keep hearing everyone talk about this B29 like its the end all of bombers. Dont you guys realize this airplane sucked? Of course the problems it had could be cleaned up and the random engine failures and fires and brake failures and many many other things done away with and it would still suck. I think it takes more runway then is in the game now has a lower ceiling then the B17 and the only thing its good for will only mean...

Nevermind bring it on I love to kill bombers :D

Why not bring the nuke too so someone can max out the kill counter dropping it on TT and furballs and cv fights? Oh wait maybe the nuke tests are whats causing the white screen lockups! I get it now...

If they get bored, they could always make a bunch of us happy by implementing the OPTION to allow us to choose whether we want to see units on the guages displayed in British (default) or the native units for the guage (like metric for most Axis).

Yes it sucked. It flew so high and so fast it was almost impossible to intercept. It carried 20,000 lbs of bombs, compared to the B-17s 6,000. It incorporated a number of firsts for airplanes including a pressurized cabin, a advanced for the time analog computer defensive fire control system, and eventually a radar for controlling the guns. It had almost twice the range of the B-17. We built about 4,000 of them, "Not counting the Russian made copies", and the system had a service life of about 17 years. The B-29, on its own, almost completely destroyed a modern industrial society including all but one of her cities, almost all her "Japans" industry, and shut down her harbors by airdropping mines. Five years later the B-29 was also highly effective in Korea.

But other then all that the B-29 sucked.:huh BTW do they still teach history in American schools?

I wouldn't say it was highly effective.  If that was the case, USAAF wouldn't have been forced to switch the B-29 from daytime bombing missions to mostly night bomb runs because of the threat the MiG-15 posed to the B-29.
