Very nice but having chatted with a fair number of fellow AHII pilots online and hearing that their systems aren't much better than mine (and having just struggled with the high-res version of the video, itself) I can't help but wonder if the AHII community, overall, is prepared for the FR hits those beautiful terrains would cause. The subscription is one thing. Having to buy a brand new machine (or invest heavily in hardware upgrades) every other patch is another .... well, for some of us. Don't get me wrong - I'd love to immerse in that. But FR of 0 kinda wrecks my immersion.

I have to agree with Arlo.  Not everyone can afford a system on the bleeding edge of technology.  In fact my system's bleeding edge scarred over a long time ago.  Thanks to the recent patch my framerates have taken another hefty hit.  I honestly don't care what the trees look like.  I just need something to mark that there is a tree there.  It could be a bitmap for all I care, and I'm predominantly a GV guy.
For me the graphics are not what drive the game.  I get immersed in the ACTION, not how realistic the terrain is.  The terrain is a tool, nothing more, to a GVer.  It offers only cover, concealment or obstacle.  I feel the same way about clouds.  Whispy cloud effects and wonderfully realistic vistas are for sightseers.  Go play FSX if you just want to look around.  I came here to fight.

Just my two pennies...

wow Arlo, would you look at that. your abject negativity gone blossomed into the very first valid reason i can think of for having split arenas for late war. One for 10year old machines and 1 for anything with 32X colours or more.  your suffering has provoked possitive input here. why, i would buy you a beer if i wouldn't rather buy it for myself. i fear im bursting into verse...someone stop me..

you're clearly a windows98 tragic muse,
inspiring others from your foulest moods.
'frame rate of zero' you do declare,
'your sand dunes are awesome but it's still not fair.'
'My computer was built before zoozoo was born,
handled twelve years of flight sim and nine gigs of pr0n.'
'I refuse to update! I paid through the nose,
back in the old days when we were the pros!'
'Now i play but thrice a month and yet i still degree,
No sweet eye candy for any of you if there aint gunna be some for me.'

You are flattering me Batty :o*blushes*

But,

Arlo and cee do have a point, very good one too.But still, those maps you see on videos are for SEAs, and if they get approved by Skuzzy, it will be like htc is "using me".I myself play on a very low end system, 5 years old, way below official requirements for AH and know how arlo and cee feel, but this game is very good optimized for ma use.We already have terrains like Karelia that produced lower fps than i am having on my map, so i am hoping that no one will have fps problems playing on my maps.
And still, we have to remember that even some of us have older spec computers a large majority have better newer computers.Do we want to hold the game progress down for them?

Neh, my reasonable response didn't rate all that much angst back. Toss a valium in the beer and reflect. :D

Large majority? I'm skeptical. I expect enough have low/mid range specs for HTC to want to retain them as customers. How many can be safely sacrificed for the pleasure of the remaining? AHII is a niche market. I'm sure we'll all catch up, in time. But that's the key, isn't it? Timing.

Now ... having said that ... nice maps. From what I've seen, I love `em.  And if the fps hits are less than Karelia, as you say, I eagerly look forward to flying them. :D

The more then few DialUppers would be dead in the water.  Or in this case, the air.

I like it and i hope they would make use of that type graphics soon, but I also designed my computer system way above what is required to run this game for that very reason and anybody who on the edge right now and thinks that they can still be using the same processing and graphic capabilities 1-2 years from now are kidding themselfs. :salute

How would the dialup players suffer, Llogan? You think their PCs are rendering graphics with the modem?

The map file size is very big.currently its 38 MBs, with 1024x1024 textures size was over 60 MBs so i had to reduce textures.
Guys on slower connections would have a lot of problems.
Croduh from mobile phone(dont ask)

I think even Cro gets crappy FPS on his system running his own maps.

Reminds me of Counter-Strike maps. I used to play around with map making. You could tell the folks that didn't care about any system at all, they just built details into the map. Often it killed the gameplay, because even the high-end systems crapped out or lagged horribly.

Cro definitely makes nice looking maps, but personally I don't want to see 'em outside a screenshot, as far as gameplay's concerned! Not until/unless they've been seriously optimized for performance (best blend of performance/looks)

I have tested some of his maps for him offline and even with my normal computer I got a FPS around 60 or so.
