Noticed this evening that in numerous threads, I'm getting notifications that cookies are being blocked- 1 in one thread, 3 in another, 2 in another, etc. In my IE settings, HTC is one of few websites I use cookies for, so I thought that was odd. Checked the warning, and they were all Yahoo cookies. Something to do with links to third party programs contained in all the avatar/user name stuff? Cookies from pictures, cookies from the crap in sigs, cookies from the user info now.
I know Skuzzy has to do what he does, and the new forum switch was unavoidable yadda yadda, but from borked search, to all the squeaker spam with glow and marquee and font size and color ad nauseum you had to sift through for a while to even read a post, this new setup blows.

Point me to a link where you are getting something like that please. I have an idea what it is, not related to the board though. I block all third party cookies which would block any cookies from our own site as well. Never have run into what you are claiming.

I get a notification on these threads.

And so on. Each one is http://opi.yahoo.com/online?u= with a variation of user ids. In fact, just look for a thread with a post by any user who has the "Yahoo Web Mesg" icon under their Avatar. I can't believe I'm the only person who would get these.

I just went through all those links and cannot find anything remotely related to Yahoo in any of them. I even blocked all cookies from anywhere and got nothing. There are some malware programs out there that could cause what you are seeing.
The Yahoo link for instant messaging is just a link. It cannot activate on its own. You can view the source of those pages and see that. Here is the Yahoo instant message link in the first link you posted. http://edit.yahoo.com/config/send_webmesg?.target=strangedayz67 You are posting a different link which suggests something else is munging the URL.
Anyone else getting any third party cookies from those links?

Not I, Sir.

nothing here

Mmmm, that's even worse then. What could be the culprit here?
Ran Ad-Aware and Spybot, no returns. Trying AVG and Comodo, and browsing this page in Firefox. Still seeing Yahoo cookies, but as this is the first time I've used Firefox, I probably need to get my security stuff tuned.
