I am putting together a system from various sources it consists of the following
core 2 duo 6600
2 gig Patriot PC2-8500
80gig boot....320 Barracuda data --drives
Antec 500w ps
Dvd burner
Visiontek HD 2400pro pci
XP pro
all this is on an Asus PB5 board
I know this is not a killer /dream system, I have $355.00 invested and its a strrech so far but my wife has offered to buy me a new video card to add to the system.
My real concern is with the video card I know it is a low cost alternative.....I was thinking of replacing the video card with either a Visiontek HD 3870 oc edition or a XFX-BFG9600gt,,,however on the boxes of the video cards it states that it is PCI Express 2.0 is this compatible with my motherboard? Is this a bios setting or hardware standard? Will it run full speed on my system or be bottlenecked? Or would I be better off with another card all together??
I would appreciate any help if anyone knows

Yes, it will work fine. None of the PCIe 2.0 cards take full advantage of the PCIe 2.0 slots YET. I'm sure that will change but for now you're ok.

Id use the E8400 but there is nothing wrong with that chp. E8400 has more instructions and runs graphics better.
