Title: Virus problems
Post by: Jappa52 on May 06, 2008, 06:29:45 PM
Hey All-

My computer has picked up a virus.  Don't know exactly what it is called but my norton identified it as a trojan of some sort.  It causes explorer to freeze and i have to restart anytime i attempt a search on google/yahoo and click on the addresses.  Every time I click on InternetExplorer it takes a long time for the page to start up as well. These problems are what's left after i followed nortons instructions to remove the virus.  It's really nothing i cant live with (doesn't effect my Aces High!!!) but i would like to make sure it is entirely gone for security reasons.  I have run norton's full system scans several times but it shows nothing.  Do you guys know of a different program i can scan my computer with to identify and remove the problem? Thanks in advance,

jappa

Well if it's a Trojan, then AVG is a good one, any other spyware/adware; Spybot S&D and Ad-aware

Run your antivirus of choice in safe mode (repeatedly press F8 while the computer's booting) so that the virus/trojan isn't running while you scan.

To prevent just about all viruses/adware/spyware, use Firefox with the AdBlocker and NoScript extensions configured properly.

Thank you for the replies.  I am going to try and run another scan(pressing F8) now to see what happens.
