Title: GMT TOD MISSION#2 AXIS AAR
Post by: Kirin on March 10, 2000, 10:35:00 AM
First I want to thank Saw for this very challeging mission. Although some of my boys didn't see a single enemy plane the mission was very tense - at least from the tower.

Axis CO AAR

The mission was to bring down a transport carrying russian traitors who arranged a meeting with our enemies. Despite the brave effort of our men the objective was not met.

Order of flight

Mission timeline

Both Recon flights took off as planned and followed their route into enemy territory to search for the transport.

MainAttackForce took off with a little delay due to roster changes.

After scanning their designated area Recon flights left their planned scout pattern and went for a more aggressive scan towards enemy territory because of lack of fuel.

Recon made contact with enemy forces. Sightings of P-51s and Spitfires were reported. As ordered Recon did not engage but kept on looking for the target. Although very low on fuel both Recon flights achieved to avoid engagements.

From this point on time kept running out. M1 & M2 were ordered to send each a pair of fighters to each of the designated landing fields for the transport to aid Recon in their task. Meanwhile mainforce advanced 1 sectore south of their hover points to tighten up the cover.

M1 made contact with a high formation of P-51s. Under the lead of Camo M1 stayed clear of the enemy and hid in a nearby cloud layer which granted M1 their escape.

M2, covering the southern and western corner did not make any contact.

All forces were called RTB after chances to still catch the transport did not justify the losses which would have to be taken.

After flights made it back to home base rescue missions were started.

DOH! eh?

I sat looking at my film afterwards too, and looked for any cons I maybe missed, but couldn't see any. As radar works in those films too, I could follow friendly and enemy (just via sector dar tho) movements. It appears he passed through same sector I was in, just before I turned for home. Oh well, will get him on his way back.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

But the party was violently interrupted when an enemy 109 appreared on our 6. But with some exciting evasives and foul language, we managed to get away with only 5 pings and a direct hit from a drop tank. Pheew.

Hehehehe phew duma... indeed that low dot on the right was me flying the goon transporting Saw (the BRB, Big Russian Brass, to 6).

I already told kirin, that I could see the spits bout 90% of my flight time.

Seems I was lucky not being spotted by you, but those 6 spits would have gotten you too   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) no doubt about it if you had engaged me   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/tongue.gif)

Nope Bee, I'm fairly sure they wouldn't  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) I tested that myself.. I was convinced that the C47 would be up high and with a close escort of Spits, so I flew towards the as-yet unidentified cons (spitfires) - by the time I'd identified the last dot then I was heading right through them! (Fuel almost depleted at this point, we hadn't even nearly enough!) I flew straight through the formation and half-rolled with spits in tow, shot were fired but they never even pinged me, couldn't catch me, and broke off after a brief chase. God bless the 109's diving prowess  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

And Saw, that was Kirin and me in the 109 (Kirin flying it). Camo came to pick us up but because Red was already joined, the game wouldn't let us join. So Camo left us in the dirt.. we ran back and found my ditched 109, repaired the propeller and decided to teach em a lesson about leaving countrymen in the dirt  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif) Gave em a few pings from the MGs, nothing damaging  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
