Title: spyware doctor
Post by: wrongwayric on May 23, 2008, 07:22:25 PM
I've used this for years as a free program and really never had a problem with it......until there last update. I have used it on both my systems and xp still works fine but the vista version was causeing major crashes of I.E. and AH since there last major update. Even if i had it shutdown while playing it would lurk in the background and crash the game.
I finally unistalled it in frustration over it and now everything is running fine. I may try reinstalling it tommorrow and seeing what happens as maybe it was a corrupted copy. Just wondering if anyone else has used it and had similar problems useing it with vista?

Hi Yep Vista is killing me! It stops the game in mid stride or causes just weird things to happen... I have to reboot and things
will work for a while then bang it will happen again... I am at a loss as what to do... I have no XP to fall back on...

One of the spyware products was causing severe problems with Aces High II.  I cannot recall which one at the moment though.

You have to reboot to completely shut it down. Otherwise the updater lurks in the background.

Well i came to the conclusion that since the last update it's not compatible with vista and AH. Not sure what's causing the crashes but i suspect it's something in vista or AH that's tweaking spyware doctor to key up on AH and some other programs when i start them. I've sent them a help e-mail so we'll see what they say but so far i've just dumped it till they get back to me. Kind of a shame as i've really liked that program so far. I'm sure they'll figure it out sooner or later.

I run PC Tools' Spyware Doctor w/anti-virus and Threatfire with XP. Threatfire is no issue, uses little resources and runs seamlessly in the background. Spyware Doctor isn't so polite. Right click on its icon in the system tray and click Shutdown... It will take a minute to disable all of the features, but you should have no problems running AH2 after that. You can restart it later.

Threatfire is a terrific piece of software. It's a free behavior based program that doesn't scan packets against a signature data base, but watches for unwanted computer behavior associated with malware, and shuts down and quarantines it in real time.

I've tried the shutdown command and for some reason with Vista it's just not the same. Even if i would shut it down it would somehow hang in the processes and crash AH. Tried shutting it down in processes and it crashed the cp. After 3 attempts to uninstall/reinstall i just figure for now it's easiest to just dump it. I've got 3 e-mails into them and haven't heard a thing back from em. :frown: Ain't customer service now days great?!
