From "what you hear" is over six months old.  FSX and Vista go well as both now support multi core CPU's. I'm running  E8400 @ 4Ghz and only experience frame drops at major airports all settings are on high or maxed out. Flying offline I have to drop AI traffic to 50%.  Full DX10 support isn't far away, hopefully they will add multi GPU support with it.

YAWN....I'll stick with AH not getting shot at would be boring. :lol Didn't really see anything special in that video that would make me want to try it.

Looks pretty

Needs F-16s and MiG-29s going at it with that level of realism around them.   ;)

Mix an arena setup like Aces High, toss in Falcon 4 Allied Force performance details and that level of fraphics...wooot.

We really do seem to be reaching a point visually at least of almost photo realism. I don't quite understand the negativity. Whatever way you want to look at it we have come a long way in graphics in recent years. For one second in the video with the sequence showing the view from the twin. I thought it was real.

Sim can never truly capture the reality of flying. Diving down in my skydive Cessna from FL90 after a drop with my ears popping could never be properly simulated, nor the heartstopping moment I hit the downdraft on short finals. But it could simulate it visually at least.

:roflDon't fancy it much myself either, that' why I fly the plane. I'd probably do a tandem jump one day though. I still can't get used to seeing people jump out of my plane and then meeting them again on the ground smiling. I kinda feel they ought to be dead or something. Nor can I get used to big guys hanging off the wingstrut looking happy and then letting go.

But the flying is good and scenery reminds me of some of the AH terrains (or should that be the other way around.)  Plus the Cessna 182 handles like an La7 when it's empty.

If a flight sim ever matches the fun you get from that kind of flying. I'll buy it.

Better yet, mix AH with those graphics, Call of Duty and Grand Theft Auto.  Have some infantry fights going on (can you say air support?).  If you get shot down, you can fight your way home.  If you make it to an NME spawn, you can yank open the canopy, punch them in the face and steal their plane. :devil

Fly online over Vatsim at a busy airport and it's more intense then any furball. Especially in something big and complex.

Home outside of AH  (PMDG 744F)

Of course some just don't have the patience for anything more complex then <insert fighter> in WW2 Quake. I use to think the thought of flying without any shooting would be boring as well. It is till you go online with it.

I've enjoyed many a virtual cross country IFR flight.
Sarah though I was nuts for sitting at the computer with charts flying from Ballina to Perth.
I don't know if FSX does real weather or not, but X-Plane downloads METARS and adjusts the weather in flight accordingly.

Yes FSX does real weather, has done since before FS9. The clouds in the video for Flight Environment are generated from a built in weather program that takes data from global weather stations, same as HiFiSim Active Sky has done for years. Tried X-Plane but the lack of detail in global scenery especially airports lets it down imho compared to FS. Plus pro addon aircraft don't support it.

SD67 have you seen the new FTX scenery for Australia (http://orbxsystems.com/) it's the next stage up from VOZ. Just intalled it last week and makes for jaw dropping VFR flying. Even looks incredible from higher alts in jets no stupid 90's looking patch quilt graphics.. Design and built by Aussie company. Will eventually cover all of Australia in detail. Currently just South and East Australia.

imho, just stunning how far FS has come in last 5 years and these guys currently produce the best scenery available for anywhere in the world, right here in Aus, even knocks photo real terrain for six.  :D

Oh thanks a lot.  I was perfectly content with occasional Waco biplane rides around Oahu in FS 2004.  You made me go out and snag FS X.  Well, it is attractive.  But like all MS Flight Sims, it teases with Ferrari performance while I have only a Camry computer.

When I max the detail, I have to loaf along in an ultralight to make the scenery as smooth as a fast slide slow.

Okay, I exaggerate a bit.  FS is always a wonderful diversion.  I'm looking for Wonders of the World.  Ought to be a few pyramids there someplace.  Anybody know an FS map or other tips for the most scenic flights, e.g., Great Wall of China, Pyramids?  I can find them via atlas but wouldn't mind some shortcuts.

I would love to be able to play this game with the scenery like this, but my computer can't handle it.  What video cards are you guys using that lets to max it out no problem?  I have 2.5 gigs of RAM.

I kept fast forwarding it looking for something to shoot at or even..  to do.   I never worried about something to do when flying real ultralights but..   I would not want to sit and watch movies of past flights either.

I like AH..  I like to shoot at cartoon planes that are being controlled by real people who are trying to shoot down my cartoon plane.

I would love to be able to play this game with the scenery like this, but my computer can't handle it.  What video cards are you guys using that lets to max it out no problem?  I have 2.5 gigs of RAM.

Bascially you need a medium - high end balanced system to run the scenery at medium settings with good FPS. Min real specs would be 2.4Ghz,2Gb Ram and atleast a 8 series graphics card with 512mb ram to run at medium, take the CPU to 3.2Ghz and 4Gb you'll be at high. Bascially FSX gains about 4-5fps for every 400mhz or so of Dual core CPU, more cores the better.. Big city airports you still won't get all the Autogen,AI traffic, planes, cars boats etc maxed out on a 4Ghz+ machine. Possibly on a overclocked Quad Core at 4.6Ghz+.

I have all settings maxed out except Autogen and AI traffic (at 35%) and can fly the PMDG 747 at 50fps+ away from big airports, drops down to about 20 at airports like KJFK. This is on a 4.2Ghz Dual Core,4Gb Ram,2x8800GT's. Though FSX currently doesn't support SLI. VFR/Bush flying I can max all the sliders.

The real frame rate killers have always been Autogen and AI traffic for FS9,FSX. Thankfully Intel are brining out fantastic chips that are cheap and easily overclockable. So should really be able to start cranking up FS once they add full DX10 and SLI support will be close to photo realistic at good frame rates.

Cripes, on a 4ghz plus quad core you could probably run FSX and AH2 at the same time. :D

Throw in a VR headset with Stereoscopic 3D and FSX is quite stunning (and fun). Though I find I have to turn the autogen down.

especially for Helicopter flights, but back to topic, yes FSX is fun to fly i can spend hours & hours
mastering different challenges, BUT!...i still wait for the real DX10 fsx!!!

Can you add new aircraft to FSX or are you stuck with what they give you?
That is my main sticking point on my decision to buy FSX or X-Plane.
