Title: P47D-11 drop tank indicator
Post by: wrongwayric on May 24, 2008, 08:26:27 AM
Ok flying this last night in the MA and the FSO i noticed that it will not show 0 or empty when the tank goes dry. In a steady constant climb it was taking me 12 seconds to burn 1 gallon of fuel so as i was watching i noticed you never get an indication that the tank is dry. 30 seconds after showing 1 gallon, it still showed 1 gallon.
Not sure if it's a bug, an oversight, or just the way it really was?

when a droptank runs dry it shows up as a 1 but if you need max range it will show a 1 early so dont dumpit then look at the fuel gage

There was no drop tank (digital) quantity indicator in that era. That is a game feature. Pilots estimated quantity by time and never ran a drop tank dry. Even an empty tank has a small amount unusable fuel remaining. It would never be 0.

They show remaining fuel in gallons plus one. This way you know when the DT is still attached but empty. When jettisoned, the count switches to zero (or 1 if there's two DTs and you drop one, ect).
