Title: About the new set up for this week
Post by: BlueTop on May 25, 2008, 07:28:17 PM
It would be nice if there wasn't a 50 troops capture for bases.  Last week it was set at 10 troops and really we just went back and forth.  No side was really able to gain anything but it was a lot of fun trying.

This new set up I went over and bombed a fuel depot  There was an enemy plane that came in to def and I shoot him down.  Then went back to see if I could strafe some more. Then everything I had just blown up came back up.   So it is kind of pointless for me to try and go blow it up any more.

It is 5:30 here in Seattle Wa.  it is prime time for the AvA   not 1 person is in there flying.   If I could try and capture a vbase with 10 troops I would go do that but I can't.

Any  ways   well I don't no .  :(

And that's why base capture is not 10 troops.

You haven't figured out how to get 50 troops to the map room at once by yourself?

It could also have something to do with this being a Holiday weekend, and people have other things going on. :)

The 50 troop capture requirement seems almost moot, to me, since the bases are so hard. I was just up there. Had fun bombing a town and having a young kid try to shoot me down on the way back to base. But then I decided to attack a v- base. It seemed like it wasn't more than a couple minutes after I deacked and hit the radar and some barracks that everything was back up again. Didn't seem like much point in continuing.

So, seeing the kid that tried to shoot me down earlier had switched to Axis, and was going on a bomb run somewhere, I decided to switch to Allies and go shoot him down. Problem was, once on the Allied side, the radar didn't seem to be working so I didn't know where he'd went, and all the bases stopped flashing.

I think friendly radar isn't working right as I didn't see on red dot the whole time I was up, even when I was being attacked.

I think the downtimes are still only 15 mintes... but for the BOA, downtimes will be much much longer at 1 hour for field objects, and 3 days for strategic.

You might want to check the settings. It couldn't have been more than a couple minutes before ack started again at that v base. I took out all three guns, went to hit the radar and then ack started up again. I should of been able to trash the whole base in fifteen minutes.

As it was I had to deack again, then started on the barracks and realized the radar was already up. Then ack started again and I gave up after deacking the last time.

He was probibly flying under the radar.  If you fly under 500 feet they can't see you.  The base should have started flashing though when he got close to it.

I agrea with the bombing.  It is kind of pointless if it is just going to come right back up agien.   I'm not sure what were suppose to pratice.  Being frustreated I guess.   :(

It was doing the samething when I was in there sunday.  Everything comes right back up agien in a couple minutes.

Just a thought.   The 10 base captures I thought worked very well last week.  You should consider this.  This is an arena that doesn't have many players really even in peak times  But most of the day it is empty.   With the captures set a 10 troops it gives people an incentive to come in and play even if there alone.  Then other people see that there is 1 person playing so they come in to see what's going on.   And then you can see there trying to capture a base and they go try and stop them.  Then pretty soon people see there are 2 payers and more come in.

It is really impossible for 1 player to pork the map.    You can really only capture the close vbases.  But it give them something to do and a reason to play even if no one is in the room.

I liked last week set up allot  that is actually the first time I have seen it with less then 35 troop capture.   I had a blast all week trying to capture vbases and people trying to stop me.
And at the end of the week it was pretty much the same as when we started.   Any ways I just thought I would share that with whom ever it may concern about the set up's of the AvA.   :salute

It's not an issue of 1 player that can kill a map, during the last war, we had 7-8 players teaming up and capturing anywhere from 5-10 bases in around 3 hours in the morning. And that was with 50 troop base capture.  :salute

That's called 'milkrunning' and it's exactly why we DON'T have 10 troop captures.

Why not disable base-capture during off-peak hours?  Then you can leave it at 10 and everyone will be happy.

Off peak hours for who? What about the Finnish or European players? I've been on at 11am with around 20-25 players (mostly Europe).  There really isn't an 'off-peak' hours.  Unfortunately, we just can't turn on or off base capture based on times - it would have to be done manually... :(

We only have 3 more days to worry about capturing bases anyway, then the real fun begins.

I hope some day  there will be people in the AvA 24 hours a day.  I'm holding down the west coast P.S.T. time zones requirement now if the rest of the world time zones would pitch in  we could have this all sorted out.   :salute

That still leaves the question, of rather the current set up is physically the same as we're going to see in the first week?

Hmmm actually someone may have accidentally answered this question for me in another thread.

If this week is only about hitting the strat targets then it would explain why the basses heal after just a minute or two. I went in and hit a VB's radar tower. And swooped out and on ignoring the rest of the base.

By the time I reached the edge of the bases radar circle on my way out.

If it's NOT supposed to be doing that, then someone needs to get in there with some duct tape and do something.

Exactly what is the HEIGHT on the radars set at?

Are we going to be able to do some NOE stuff or is it set strictly for the "UBBER RADAR" that can see through mountains?

For sure it will be a huge problem for the axis since there is an allied VH spawn straight into our strats. If we can't knock that base out it means a constant rotating cap on those facilities with the constant stream of vehicles sure to be coming out of it. This will be a large handicap since it will tie up the majority of axis manpower.

Would a staff member please address this issue directly about whether it will stand as is or the spawn be closed down so we can plan ahead? This question and the question of air spawns have been on the boards for a couple weeks or more and still have not been answered. It is a real concern for Axis leadership.  :salute
