Post by: Larry on May 27, 2008, 12:24:05 AM
Im working on these skins right know for the 49th FG. Iv got started on them all and should have them all done before the next skin patch. Iv have Johnsons P47 and Bogs P38L far enough along I can show them. They both still arent done and need more work but heres a preview.

Very nice, TK!   The 49ers are going to love these additions.

I notice that the antiglare panels on the '38 don't match what is depicted in the 3/4 view artwork - the antiglare area should extend back into the turbocharger intakes and down below the air intake on the nacelle sides.   Also missing the small sliver on the inner wing top surface, right up next to the boom.  It is a problem to depart from HTC's default antiglare panels, however - if you do it as the artwork depicts you'll wind up with areas of different specularity.   Its a problem I hadn't found a satisfactory workaround for on natural metal P-38s.

Also, #42 is a P-38L, but it looks like you've skinned it on a 38J (lacks a leading edge landing light on port wing).

Actually thats an ETO based P38J TB.  Just happens they got some yellow and black paint out it appears.  Film taken at Podington Airbase in England.  The Black square on the tail and the eto-style squadron letters also a give away on that.

Here is a pic of Bong's "YELLOW 42" - not 100% sure but doesn't appear to have the landing light on the wing - could there have been a "J" also numbered YELLOW 42?

P-38 in the film with 4N squadron code is from the 394 FS/387 FG, 9th AF Stationed at STONEY CROSS.

Definately a visitor to the base - Only USAAF aircraft that were stationed at PODINGTON during the war were B-17's & A-20's.

Yes there could have been a J.  When I sent the two profiles to TK, the idea was to have 46 as the J and 42 as the L-1 so that the 49ers could in theory go up in both and have a mix of squadron birds in the correct colors kinda like the 80th has green trimmed Gs Js and Ls so we don't all look exactly the same but have the correct squadron colors.

I'd suggest TK go with it that way and if up to it submit the J and L

We already have a variation of "Texas Longhorn" in the game, just as an FYI.

Yea, I knew that. We use it and the other skins tied to the 49th or V Fighter Command pretty regularly.

Was more worried about the P-38G & P-47D-11 he was making for us. They were just about done just don't know if he ever submitted them.   :(
