An Aces High Training Squad is being formed. The goal is to compress 8 months of overall Aces High experience and information into 8 weeks of structured training. Training will be held mostly in the Main Arenas (not the Training Arena) and comprised of goal-oriented activities. There will be an Aces High Training Corps member present and multiple trainers may participate in some segments.
Schedule: Every Tuesday evening June 10 through July 29 @ 10pm EDT
Plus, supplemental training on other days of the week when I'm online.
This training is open to all levels of players, but limited to the first 28 players. Participants must be subscribers - no 2 week trial memberships.
The squad will rotate countries during the training cycle and all members will be released after completion on July 22.
Training will be comprised of:
- air-combat in a variety of aircraft
- attack aircraft
- bombers
- ground vehicles
- game play, base capture & Task Group operations
Players who complete this training cycle will have a solid foundation in all facets of Aces High and will be excellent recruits for any squad, or competent to start their own.
If you would like to join this training cycle, please post here and indicate your AH user name. More organizational information will be posted to this thread, so please check here prior to the start date of June 10.

I am at best a mediocre pilot and lousy dogfighter/bomber/gv jockey and any help would be greatly appreciated.

EskimoJ: I don't think that will be possible for this program.
To those who wish to participate and add their names here, I will invite you into the squad during the week if I see you in the arenas. I'll be out of town for a couple days, but will answer questions here later in the week.

Would be glad to join Rolex, Adonai is my user name.
I spent many hours in TA , I honestly didnt feel any of it would help newer players out as they need hands on training in MA to learn.
This idea Rolex would down near be perfect idea to help recruits learn aside veterans!
Im available most hours of the afternoon in Eastern Standard Time, usually in TA from 3-4pm and MA after that.

how will this affect status in our current squad? fir examplw listing on the roster.

I'd like to join but would i have to be there every time. I have various times were I am at camps vacation and so on. If i can't do this then don't sign me up.

Gawd, could I use a little more training. I'm competent, but am always looking to get better. As far as training in the MA though...
How do you plan to keep the ho-tards/ram-tards/horde-tards at arm's length? Although I'm sure you have a plan, I'm not sure how much learning we can get done if we're killed every 5 minutes. Granted, the idea is to NOT get killed all the time :D.
As was brought up earlier, how will this affect our current squad status and MA scores? (Not that I care much about scores)
Since you're planning for Tuesdays, should we assume you will be in EW or MW? How long are the sessions? Starting at 22:00 EDT is no problem, unless you're planning on two-hour sessions or something.
Regardless of the little details, this is a great idea and I applaud you for the effort. Because of some time contraints, I won't be able to formally request to join but am willing to show up and not interfere, unless you need some cannon fodder :lol.

You teach the pilots how to look for a ho, and how to learn to avoid it using ACM. I Think as far as squads go, Im not in a squad so it wont effect my squad score, but if your so interested in your squads score, probably not the best to go into a training squad and get killed few times, might ruin your "rank" if you care about it. I think it will be done in the Main Arena, Late War which is probably a better idea seeing how 80% that join will be in LW rather the 20% in EW and MW. However im sure this is a guess.
-
I'd like to join. My only problem is July 22nd I have a softball game at a still-to-be-determined time. I have a game on June 17th too but its at 6pm so I should be good to go.
In-game ID is "Boildown".

From Rolex's post this will be a seperate squad you get invited to. So if in a squad now you will need to excit that one and need to be reinvited when the training is over. I assume thats how it will be done but maybe its different.
I have a couple squaddies on the list now and they will definately be given TDA's to this squad without a problem.
Question for Rolex, I assume these training Ops will be able to be filmed by the students and disseminated to their squads and others upon completion, correct?

I hope not, I'm a CO/XO of the VF-31 Tomcatters. If I went the squad would be disbanded.

Fuzeman is correct about my intention on squad membership and about films. I did think having a squad makes all of this easier for communication. I willing to hear both sides of the issue.
Some people will miss some Tuesday sessions. That's to be expected and why as a squad, the information can be given out at other times. As a squad, I and other trainers will be helping not just on Tuesdays, but any time we are on line.
I off for 2 days, but will be back on Thursday to answer more questions.

Rolex,
An Idea I got, I would like to stay with the training corps squad for an entire "tour" So I could be any use to help players in day time,
regardless if its tuesday night. If its possible, I would like to stay even as the squad changes countries and tours, perhaps if you can see me fit to be a helper for whatever you seem fit. <S>
-
This sounds like an excellent idea. Unfortunately I will be back on afternoon shift next week. :cry I think that for the individuals participating it will not only be a good training exercise but great fun as well. Enjoy your flight time. :aok
-
I would be glad to help out as a trainer. But I am only qualified to teach ACM. I know lots about the other stuff but not enough to be a lead trainer for that kind of training. I could be an assistant though in these cases.
I'm not sure creating a seperate squad is the way to go but I guess for those not in a squad it's no problem. For me getting reinvited every time I leave would not work out so good.
If I am a trainer I would just start a mission to get everyone together and up from the same field. Say if the mission goal is: "fighter sweep to learn knife fighting" then I would lead the group to a juicy furball or other area with cons that is suitable. The group would take turns engaging cons as we find them with the rest of the group protecting the fight. Perhaps we then wind up in a small furball or not depending. I rotate letting everyone ride with me once. Once we get some kills we RTB. The others who were shot down can either wait for the next mission or up again on there own.
I would time the missions for say 15 or 20 min max. So we get 3 or 4 into an hour.
Of course we could also alternate lone wolf 1 vs 1 or 2 type training and wingman type training.
Perhaps if we have differnt trainers on at the same time there could be several type of missions going and the students can join the mission that offers the kind of training they want. Or we could have missions with several trainers and group into wingman pairs or seperate flights.
I think a squad forum would be useful so we can post some films from these missions and de brief on our mistakes and successes.
I play almost every night for several or more hours. So I have no problem being around.
If anyone is interested in what kind of training I might offer check out my "Agent360 training films" thread. If you want to learn this type of flying then you would be interested in perhaps joining a mission I "might" be leading.
Anyway I am offering to help here. Just let me know.

I hope not, I'm a CO/XO of the VF-31 Tomcatters. If I went the squad would be disbanded.
Same issue, I'm technically "CO" of a 71 Squad wing. I cant resign without disbanding the wing. I'll certainly "check in" and see if I can assist in anyway. Other then using squad vox vs a number I cant see any real issue. If you actually get a full boat then you may want a few channels anyway...
-
Sorry I didn't get to help you out like I said earlier Simaril.. You're in good hands with Rolex :)

A question Rolex --
Is this intended to be an orientation and skill development course, primarily intended for less experienced players? Or, is it going to also help guys work on MA style combat skill development, even if they've played the game for a while?
-

I stink, therefore I am.......in dire need of AH training! :) The start time is good and if the sessions are an hour long, I can do it and want to sign up. If they're longer than an hour, then it probably wouldn't work for me (I need the beauty sleep for my pesky job). In-game ID: Kingbird.

Simaril: Is this intended to be an orientation and skill development course, primarily intended for less experienced players? Or, is it going to also help guys work on MA style combat skill development, even if they've played the game for a while?
The answer is probably a little of both, Simaril. More experienced players may have to suffer through some parts they already know, but there is a lot of ground to cover. I will leave that up to you. My only request is that people who plan on continuing through the entire cycle take the slots available.
Here are some further clarifications:
I make no judgment that one style of play is better or more "elite" than another. The game is what it is and offers what is does. People should be able to enjoy whatever parts they have an interest in - fighters, bombers, attack, gvs, etc. More than 50% of our time will be flight training and air combat. The remainder will cover other aspects of the game and gameplay.
1) Unfortunately, it's not possible to offer all things to all people. There are some reasons for doing this as a squad (instead of open sessions on a tuned channel) that may not be obvious, but are important. So, if you are unable to join because of other squad obligations, or are reluctant to change countries during the training cycle, this training squad is probably not for you. This will not be just a series of clinics on Tuesdays, it will include questions and answers whenever the members are online.
2) A big thanks to all the folks who have offered to help with this. For this first training cycle, members of the AH Training Corps will be the primary trainers, but I reserve the right to ask people with particular expertise to assist. ;)

Thanks, Rolex.
At first glance I was afraid that a more basic course might not be for me -- since I've played for several years and pretty much know where my weak spots are in fighters (gunnery and staying on the right side of the envelope).
But after consideration, it's looking pretty exciting. The depth and challenge of fighter work has absorbed my attention almost exclusively, so this course will help me enormously with GV work, buff gunning, and other areas. I'm really looking forward to it.

Glad to help out in anyway I can. Switching sides isnt an issue but I cant resign from mine without dissolving a "wing". I also wouldnt want to take spot from anyone. One place I can probably help out if wanted is with A-20 specific training if/when applicable. It's a great dual purpose plane that can be both an effective air to ground platform and a suprisingly formidable air to air opponent when flown to its strengths.
-
Would love the help

One last reminder to those who wish to join this cycle, we'll meet in the training arena on Tuesday, June 10 @10 pm EDT for an orientation before we head to an arena. Please move to Bishop in the TA. See you tomorrow! <S>
Note: if you see me online prior to that, you can pm me for an invite.
-
Rolex please clarify how this squad invite will effect our current squad setup. Will it just change for that arena or all arenas. Other than TA which arena will we be in hopefully early or mid. Not set up for squad there myself.
-
Rolex will you need any helpers for first few days? be glad to offer whatever time you need me around
-
Hi flatiron1. Sorry, but you'll have to withdraw from your current squad temporarily to participate through the cycle. You can rejoin after it's over. We will be moving between countries and arenas, so communicating with, and finding everyone is easiest with a squad. There are some other reasons, too. I wish I could accommodate everyone's request, but I just can't. I hope you're able to work this out and join us.
Hi Adonai. The orientation and initial parts are covered, thanks. I'll contact people through a pm for help throughout this.

I'm at "A2" in the training arena, on bish side, and I can't find A100 on the map... we're supposed to meet there. Also I don't know how to change my vox to 194. Help anyone?
This is late for last night training, but just for future info...
An easy way to change fields is to use the "dot" command. It makes it easy to switch fields without needing to find it on the map. Simply type .move x where "x" is the number of the field you want to go to. To move to field A100 for example, type .move 100 You don't type in the "A" for field A100, just the number. It will work for moving to V-Bases, CV's, etc...
A dot command is an easy way to change a radio frequency as well. We have 5 "radio's" in the game. "Vox" is radio #5. To change vox to channel 194, you would type in .radio 5 194 If you also wanted to tune a text channel to the same frequency (radio 4, for example), you would type .radio 4 194
MtnMan
-
"Vox" is radio #5
Thanks, figured that out eventually... that was the key piece of info holding me back.
That and me thinking I was already on Bish when I was really on Knights made it really weird lol. But hell I'll never screw that up again now.
-
me thinking I was already on Bish when I was really on Knights
Boiler, the Arenas are separate entities. The Main arenas, i.e. EW, MW, and 2 LW arenas are connected for country purposes. The AvA, SEA, and Training arenas are not. You can change the other arenas without changing the MA arenas. I just confused myself, disregard until someone coherent can elaborate. :D :salute

A big S! to you Rolex.
Althought my training session with you was just an hour in the TA, I recall it as one of the better moments I had in AH and pushed me further to deepen my knowledge.
Fly your squad with the Rooks so I won't have to shoot you guys down, and when I'm online I'll be sure to wing up with you guys.

I'd really like to do this if possible.
If another training squad is set up, could it please be run a hour earlier, or even better 90 minutes earlier? This is because I live in London, and anyone East of the USA would have a hard time making this (I am on holiday, so I can stay up till 2:00AM etc if I need to, but I don't really want to if possible). If the trainers can't do this then that's fine, but it would be nice.
