I just wanted to post and say hello. I have recently downloaded AH and am excited to begin playing. I have not played this genre of game for almost a decade, since the Air Warrior days (Flew as ->OD with the Widowmakers in the relaxed realism arena's). I am looking forward to getting my new stick and throttle so I can get up in the virtual air again and hopefully enjoy the same type of camaraderie that was IMO the best part of the Air Warrior Days. <<S>> to you all.

Well, would that be the "REAL" Widowmakers or the "FAKE" Widowmakers? :devil

the addiction shall begin
It shall begin again..... I am a bit worried when I think back to AW and all the time I spent on it, the urge has never left me though. My poor G/F is going to be lonely for a while. I just bought a new computer specifically so I could play this game, although I couldn't tell her that.

I guess that depends on your perspective. If I remember the timeline correctly we flew as the WM's on AOL, then moved to Gamestorm, when AOL dropped AW another squad (who had formed on AOL after we left)calling themselves the WM's moved to Gamestorm. Since they obviously formed on AOL after we left I would have to say the "REAL" Widowmakers. We flew as a squad for about 5 or 6 years, so that is real enough I think.

There will be plenty of time for the G/F. Just give up sleep! :lol
Welcome to the addiction!

Welcome and have fun.... :D

Well, I flew with both. I believe the WM's that are here hail from the later (fake) group. Still good guys tho. :salute

I think Lute and teufl might for a little while had flown in the original squad - but i didn't get involved til Gamestorm - on AOL i was in Black Widows squad -which was an offshoot of the WM's - OHIO,GONZO, and some other whacko's who left WM's started it I think -
There are about 5 guys stil on the WM squad now that have flown since aol AW - I flew RR in both aol and Gamestorm - i remember you OD
And contrary to NB's statement - we are complete arses in the WM's and mostly are cranky old men..
:)

yeah ohio, gonzo, crzyhrse, darkhrse, teufl, and a few others have been on but most are gone. quite a few flew as JB's back in 2002-2003, there's others I forgot the names of.
when I think it was Lute came to AH they left the JB's and re-started the WM's (early to mid 2003 IIRC).

I'm looking forward to hopefully finding some old faces who have missed shooting me to pieces. As far as being a cranky old man, I proudly consider myself one. When I started the WM Squad that was the kind of person I enjoyed flying with, skill and scoring were always secondary to not being an annoying jerk. As always, there were exceptions.

Well, plenty of folks here find that being an annoying jerk takes a backseat to NOTHING! :devil

There are quite a few guys that played Air Warrior, some going back to GEnie days. There is an Air Warrior thread around here somewhere.
This is not as close knit as Air Warrior was, pre AOL, due to having more people and you get a lot of the younger demographic because it doesn't cost $6.00 and hour plus long distance charges. :D
But there are a lot of good people in here and it does tend to eat up your free time. Have fun and welcome to Aces High.

Thanks Ly, looking forward to learning the game and hooking up with a good squad. See you up as soon as my stick arrives.

Hiya OD! Welcome to AH, once you get in the game you'll see so many old faces that it will feel like a high school reunion :aok

The Gamestorm (/\)idowm (\/)akers pre-date MY WidowWakers (III/JG26 9th ST from AOL) by @ 5-6 months.
I think that was all hashed out @ 1998 ish. I for one remember the GS WM's talkin' a bunch of smack about us being "fakes" and I had to get a GS account and kill most of 'em. (good times... good times...)
And yes, i'm one of the original III/JG26 9ST's.
Welcome aboard! I remember ya' well. Great to see another Air Warrior flying again.

Lute, you are probably refering to the great RainMan (->RM) who was nothing short of brilliant when it came to the BB's on AW. He had a flair for writing that is for sure, wasn't so bad in a 38 either. Somewhere I still have one of his "Rain Wayne" posts flaming the Iron Eagles squadron, an instant classic.

Welcome to AHII ODBAL.
I joined up with the (/\)idow (\/)akers in 1999 in RRE and also flew with A.C.C.S.(EU) in FR.
Had lot's for good times flying with you, SUN, Nosho, ATC, RM, Gumby and the rest of the crew.
Most people consider Knights as the old C'z team..so you made the right choice from the start :)

Welcome. Don't tune to 200 and you'll love it!

Cz fly for Knights...
You should print out the key map list.....+ dot commands
you can bring up a bulls eye target by typing .target 800 < any distance you want ..thsi is in yards..look north target is there..it will help with ballistics of differnt guns
much different then RR AW...more like AWME if you played it
welcome..this game is kikasssssssssssssssssss
snif sniff..no deathstars though...whaaa
i was BGB in AW's flew with Reapers (Pappi CO)..then after he died..I flew with 40dog and the mighty MAW!!
your gonna love this stuff in here

Thanks for the suggestions, I have noticed a few old faces around which has been nice. I have already noticed signs of sleep depervation, which worries me. I remember staying up until almost 4 a.m. on work nights/mornings playing AW during the initial 3 year "addiction" period.. I have already resigned myself to the fact I am doomed.

You will find AH is not "RR" like AW had. It will be very hard on the learning curve, even if you've flown other games before. I came in from WB and other flight sims and AH was no cake walk.
I suggest reading the help forums, trying the offline before online (your trail doesn't kick in til you go online for the first time, it'll save you 2 weeks free), and go to the TA (Training Arena) for help with the basics.
But, no matter what else you do, above ALL ELSE, go into "Flight Options" and UNCHECK "stall limiter" -- too many people leave this on and have to go through the entire learning process again later as they turn it off.

I was told that, and with much hesitation unchecked that box..... I understood better about the learning curve after that.... I am reading all I can and being active in the H&T forums, lots of helpful folks round them parts.
