Whats the biggest resolution you can get out of a VGA port?
-
I have no sources, but video card specs from over the years generally maxed out at 2500x1900 something and this was the pre-DVI days too. So imagine its somewhere around there.

Max Res normally will depend on your GPU and monitor. A 17" monitor supports up to 1280x1024. Various other sizes will effect the max.

Yeah i know, was just wondering if there was any set limitations on port itself. If 2500x1900 is it then i should be good. thx
-
The port itself has no stated limits, but there are practical limits.

Im guessing 1680 x 1050 should not be a problem for my HP lappy then. It has a Gf 7600go card so that should not be a problem.

Are you running an external screen or something? Or is this the resolution of the laptop screen itself?

Plan on getting an external 22" Dell monitor for my lappy with the above mentioned res. The lappy runs at 1400x900, but sadly it doesnt have DVI or HDMI, only VGA port.

When I built my new machine there was, unknown to me at the time, an issue with video corruption with my motherboard. I tried watching a movie at Netflix and could only get 5 minutes into it if even that. I called Netflix tech support and they told me to hook my monitor up with a VGA cable. Idiots. Well, I did because I was willing to try anything at the time. The VGA cable easily supported my 1680x1050 resolution. In fact, I couldn't tell a difference except that video scaling wasn't supported through my video card set-up anyomore.
NVidia/EVGA have since released a BIOS update that corrected the video corruption issue with my mobo and now I'm a happy camper watching movies at Netflix with my DVI connection.

The limiting factor is going to be the graphics chipset on your lappy. What I quoted were old PCIAGP and new PCI-E card specs for resolution. I have no idea if your laptop video chipset is limited in external resolution settings.

The "go" series is not as powerful as the full PCIe or AGP series. Benchmarks will be significantly lower.
I have a 7600 GTS and I wouldn't want to run games at that resolution unless I turned down *all* the goodies and settings.
