For those of you looking for some intense tank and ground combat action, take a look at Red Orchestra. Today, the latest mod called Darkest Hour, Normandy 44 has been released for the anniversary of D-Day. I was going to list the available vehicles and playability but found it just too extensive a list, so go take a look see at: http://www.redorchestragame.com/ If you decide to spend the one time $19.95 come on over to my Darkest Hour Server: 17th Panzer Division. Hope to cya on the battlefield!
p.s- still waiting for Combat Tour! or whatever their calling it these days. :pray

Was that it?
That's not very impressive at all. I watched both videos. All I saw were bad animations, crappy ragdoll physics, and nothing that hasn't already been accomplished better by other games which are much older.

Wow! $4.99 thru Sunday guys!!! You tankers, make sure you check it out! Don't base your decision on someone else's opinion!

Yea, I'm gonna have to grab it, I've been wanting to check it out so at that price who can say no. I'm actually working on a simple ww2 tank sim myself and should have a working demo in the next 4 to 6 months.

Ewwwww STEAM Ewwwwwwww.
-
I tried it when I had dialup. That was pure hilarity. I strongly doubt I'll buy any other game using Steam, even though I've got fiber now. What a PITA that was.

Yea, it's so hip to hate Steam...all the cool kids hate it.
Anyway, I've played Red Orchestra since the first beta many years ago and it's grown into a great, realistic WWII shooter. No, it doesn't have fancy graphics like CoD4, but it has a realistic feel to the combat and it has some great maps. The new Darkest Day (D-Day battles) is an excellent free mod. On Steam you can buy Red Orchestra for $4.99 for a limited time. Give it a go if you're looking for something WWIIish and more realistic.

when I want tanks I go to red orchestra.. simple as that.. a whole lot of fun, in my opinion.. not saying it's better or worse than AH or anything like that.. it's even worth having steam (not that I've seen anything negative having steam on my PC the whole time I've been using it!)..
and you cant tell all that much from videos alone.. the videos for AHII wouldn't have pulled me in either.. again just my opinion.
The free darkest hour add on is excellent.. still a few bugs to iron out, but they're fixed fairly quick!.. the game play is great.. I dont think I've heard the word noob once the whole time.. no crying and complaining about the other guy's actions from anyone... just a lot of people having a lot of fun.
infantry and tanks, user created maps.. many many servers to choose from..
when I want a flying fix I'll go to aces high.. but most of my time is spent in red orchestra.. :)
it's worth a peek.. 'specially for the one time $5.. you dont have to close your AH account just because you play a different game you know?... but (again just my opinion) tankers looking for some GV action that's a lot better most likely won't be dissapointed by RO :)

I actually went ahead and grabbed it and it's pretty fun on the GVing side. The FPS part of the game kinda sucks IMHO. However I found some servers just using tanks and they were pretty fun. Seems a bit lop sided though. The Soviet T34's seems way under classed to the German armor.

The FPS part of the game is a little run of the mill/hamster wheel kind of play.. but still, to me, more fun than the other super snazzy fancy graphics FPS games...
getting a good spot, hull down, using angles.. even t34s can take out tigers and panthers if they're used right.. or survive more than a few hits when you're angled right :) a good driver or gunner (if you feel like teaming up with someone) can work wonders as well
come to think of it, I've only been spawn camped a few times.. and that was just on one or two maps that weren't made too well.. and maps that aren't made too well and have promise are usually picked up by someone that knows how and they'll make whatever changes to the map to make it more suitable to the community... if a map sucks it's simply not used on servers and it fades away
all in all.. as far as tanking goes.. it blows AH away (don't get offended you guys.. we all know the focus of AH is in the air and not on the ground).
One thing I really like is you won't see servers with mixed tank sets like you would in AH... no tigers shooting at a mix of IS2's and panthers.. or t34s fighting along side a panzer III's... it's purely allies against axis.

Been playing RO about 2 years now. Still brings me back to it every couple days. It was $50 when I bought it and it was worth every cent IMO.

I wished for Tanks once.... ended up in the 2nd ACR in Germany for 3 Years.
Be careful what you wish for.
