Title: Filling the text buffer with .S (game ID)
Post by: Sled on June 07, 2008, 08:37:26 PM
From what I understand, this is the new funny thing to do in FSO.

I am not laughing.

Those of you that are doing this for a laugh.

Please do it again this next Friday.

PLEASE..............

While I might not be the smartest cookie in the jar, I did take a moment to read what Sled had to say twice.  I like to interpret what Sled has posted into the following phrase:

"Please don't .s[gameid] other players for kicks during FSO or you might be invited not to return for quite some time."

For those that are "thick headed".

Golfers interpretation is correct.

With 2 or 3 minutes left before the frame starts, many of us are actually talking to each other and planning our missions.  Due to the inability to squelch the constant chatter on range, we resort to text.  3 pages of <S>, mostly between the same people for the sake of attention is really annoying.

The things that have to be explained just stun me.

They don't have to be explained- the kids involved know exactly what they're doing, and know how it will be received, and no contrived "Im relly sory adn I haves lerned my lesson" posts are going to convince me they're interested in the events, so much as they are in the opportunity to be twits in front of a captive audience. They should have been booted immediately, and some should never have been let back in. It really is that simple. No one should have to be told to follow the rules, or not be an idiot.

My two cents anyway.

I only seem to recall a large flurry of them being aimed at sled.

I took it as support for the address he made at the beginning, nothing more.

A bit annoying, sure, but I think it was a way of agreeing with you for what you were saying Sled.

Krusty....................... .........

That is not what I am talking about.

Obviously I am not referring to the people that were giving me a ".S" for my little speech.

The 15 or so people that I am referring to, know what I am talking about.

Oh, okay. Sorry, I didn't see any of that. I watch Gallactica and it ends right at 9PM (same time I'm supposed to be in here) so I jump in ASAP -- usually miss the early pre-game stuff.

To say that seeing the channel 200 suddenly flare to life with <S> name, while in the middle of finalizing our orders and geting the troops on the same page was an un-needed distraction, would be a kindness indeed.  :furious  Things like this make the FSO (and any arena) look bad, when you can detune a channel but still receive the messages.

Great job you're doing SLED.  Sorry so many thankless people are making it difficult.

As an aside, that wasn't 200. The .s is on Channel 1, which can't, to my knowledge, be detuned.

My interpretation was that if you do it again you stand a high probability of a hand actually coming through your speakers and pimp slapping you so hard your grandkids will have a bruise. Seems our new FSO popularity is in part due to the tardling breeding season.  :salute Sled, you and your team do a bangup job. I really missed my few months away while my new squad got ready to join FSO.

and on a side note "Let's go Mountaineers!!"

This is what is says to me, if you and your buddies do it again you will be booted on the spot. I guess you kids are too young to watch Dirty Harry movies. The sarcasm/threat/promise is very appearant to me.

If it's not obvious to you what Sled is getting at, you should probably have someone read it to you.

I'm not gonna mention names, but the whole saluting ever person they know seemed to have been started by one person and it just grew from there, and it does get very annoying, for alot of us we have quite a few things we are doing in the minutes leading up to the launch order and sometimes rely on the text buffer to check if we missed something, but with all the <S> the text buffer gets eaten up fast.

I know I gave one <S> to Sir Vilkas shortly after I entered the arena, approx T-25 minutes to start. I don't think that was part of the problem but I will send him a PM <S> from now on.
