Title: .Salvo and .Delay
Post by: Yeager on February 25, 2000, 03:43:00 AM
To be constricted to 0.05 for delay has no use.  If I pack twenty 100pnd bombs (for example), I need to be able to salvo at least four for decent hit probablity but being constrained to 0.05 as a minimum is like this:click..........click......... .click

Its worthless in the arena.  I should be able to salvo strings damn near simultaneously.

Right now I simply wont be using this feature.  Why all the different loadouts?  There is no use for the salvo and delay settings.

The best use I've found for the salvo command is for rockets so you can kick off 4 at a time at acks and kill them.
The other times I've used it have been when hitting the HQ, and on our last 2 large raids, all 17s used .salvo 12 for carpet bombing of the city we were hitting.
You can get a tighter group by reducing your airspeed before you drop.

A delay of 5 "Hundredths" of a second is too much?  ".05" of a second is pretty good I think.  The bombs are rack and stacked in the bomb bay in close proximity to each other.  There has to be a delay between each release or you have a chance of bombs colliding in freefall and exploding before reaching target.  (This is probably not modeled in AH currently.)

PS.  In a B17, I slow to less than 150mph when I am on a bomb run.  At that speed I can get 3 1000lb'ers on the HQ in one pass.

Thats what I thought too terror so I tried it and the delay to drop 8 bombs at .salvo 8, .delay 0.05 took well over 2 seconds.

I have seen bomb bay footage of B-17s dropping sticks of 500 pndrs just damn near simultaneously.
