What a crock of BS

It seems I may not be as informed as yourself. Could you kindly fill me in on past history with this group.
Seemed like they were concerned to me.

Net Neutrality = bunch of p2p downloaders worried their downloads are going to stop going as fast, have no clue about ISP business models/costs, and are fairly ignorant around the technical aspects of networks in general.

So, an ISP interrupting and breaking a customer's use of Skype to force their own paid IP phone service is fine by you?

how could the internet end in the first place

At the winter solstice 2012 the world ends and the internet cannot continue.

First name an example of this.
Second, change ISP's.
Third an ISP deploying VoIP will typically segment off the VoIP network by VLAN or MPLS, such that any data apps do not 'touch' bandwidth allocated for VoIP.
Fourth VoIP bandwidth is typically very low, so bumping apps off for VoIP bandwidth is unlikey.
Fifth if an ISP doesn't traffic shape then Skype is more likely to be negatively impacted by restricted use of agressive Peer 2 Peer apps.
Next question?

Don't "next question" me. Your version of the world is not the word of God, young man.
Comcast does it.

Bear in mind that UDP packet modification affects us playing AH as well.
Traffic shaping bites however it's performed, but I'd much rather they just limit the speed once an amount has been exceeded than disrupt one type of traffic altogether.

How exactly? All I've seen is that comcast uses tcp rst's for traffic shaping in general. TCP RST's are not the best way to shape your traffic. Although if you dig a little deeper Skype uses UDP anyway so the Skype 'poisoning' conspiracy sort of dies with that news :)

Does it bite? Keep in mind that P2P networks saturating ISPs potentially degrade your connection to AH. Which is one of the many reasons I'm 'for' traffic shaping including selling a shaping appliance to the ISP I currently use.

Stop this fighting!! Can't you see? Didnt you listen to them?! The internet as we know it is going to disappear...and if we dont work together to find a way off of it...we're all gonna die.

Thanks for that. I thought these guys were on about ISP's going the way of cable TV. Meaning package 1 basic & so on.
I'm a Virginmedia user. They e-mailed all of us late last year saying hard core down loaders were going to have their speeds cut for 4 hours at peak times. Their reasoning being 5% of user were hard core while 95% were not & that the 5% were slowing things up for the majority.....or something along those lines.

Isn't 2012 the end of everything? (according to the Mayan calendar)

Isn't 2012 the end of everything? (according to the Mayan calendar)
Everyone ....all together now ....."It's the end of the world as we know"
OR
"Always look on the bright side of life"
Man!...I've been looking at some of the stuff on the net / utube / discoseTV there's some right nutters out there. Mayans said planetX comes by 2012 & giant gods kill us.
In the mean time alians been keeping an eye on the "zoo" they genetically engineered but they had a misshap at roswell and we back engineered the tech but the "elite" got their hands on it and set up bases on the moon and mars so when 2012 comes about they get off the planet. If the giant gods don't finish us off the "elite" makes sure 80% of us gets killed with "chemtrails" (diseases and stuff sprayed in the atmosphire). Also the elite get to dictate to the world afterwards but some of the elite have been infiltrated by aliens.
I'm assuming 1 set of aliens don't know what the other set are doing. Not to worry though chaps a Dr of Biology working in a "black ops" base got his hands on some kind of time space portal. Not sure how he did it or the aliens he worked with but they changed it all for the best. We're not going to switch to time line 2 but stay on time line 1 & varient 83 of time line 1 is changing as WE right the future....phew.
And if you think thats good it gets even better. There isn't actually anyone in charge and we're all living, some may want to look this up, the "cargo cult". :t

Then traffic shaping should be beneficial for you (assuming you're not one of the 5%). Thats what annoys me with those net neutrality freaks, they just don't understand the concept, reasoning, and technology behind shaping and bandwidth management. And at the end of the day they are probably part the 5% of users leeching all the bandwidth to download copyrighted material.

Have used Lime wire and kazaa in the past but nothing heavy. I use the net for paw..err surfing and playing AH. I did a test to see if AH would be effected but it looked clean.
So ISP ain't putting in a back door cable like package then ? That would piss me off.
