so, i was sitting at home today, and decided to do something about the squirrels that were munching on the house. (yes, they are EATING the bare wood on the back of my house.)
So I get my trusty Crosman, (since shooting REAL guns in the city is ALWAYS frowned upon), and tag about 3 in an hour.. this pellet gun ROCKS! 3 shots, 3 kills, all three, the pellet went clean through.. the best shot... squirrel about 30ft up in a tree, partially obscured by leaves. I take a shot, seeing only his front paws and part of his tail. Hit dead between the eyes.. Instant kill. pellet exits through back of head. slightly messy spot on driveway. Wife yelled at me when she had to clean blood and stuff off the drivway with garden hose.
Squirrels eat my house, squirrels die... :furious :t
Any1 else got a good shooting story?? (NOT related to AH2!!!)

Try it with predator pellets, they'll make a nasty mess.
-
i use crosman premier hollowpoints... never had a gripe with them. cheap and accurate

You'll shoot ur eye out.

my friend nailed a magpie in a tree once. he saw it in front of his house, went and got his pellet gun. the magpie was hopping around in the tree, just as my friend fired, the magpie jumped onto a branch below the one that it was currently on. the pellet hit the bird right below it's beak. the pellet went right into the magpies brain through it's neck. the bird died instanly. his neighbors later complained about it.

I got these two with my CFX (1000fps air rifle), they're pretty representitive of what I normally kill (kill usually range from 15m to 80m):

Well, not really a good story, but I have had A LOT OF FUN with my .50 caliber blowgun - it can reliably kill varmints up to 10lbs.

My brother was in his Building Structures class, No big deal. My brothers friend sees some crows flyin across an opening maybe 20 feet from my brother. My brother, nail gun in hand, bets that he would hit a crow, he misses. It was one of the new safety guns that you cant "bounce". ya shoot, wait for it to reload or what ever it does, rinse and repeat.

What coat do you use for your house?
For chewers you can use "carbol" (sort of a tar-whiff), or make your own cocktail from i.e. diesel.
I know this, for I have to deal with horses that frequently gewt stored in a paddock, and they will literally eat the naked wood.
Horse vs squirrel....horse eats more. And I can't shoot those :D

If you want to experience "fun" go to Africa and shoot jackals at night with a predator call.
We used to shoot big city rats with air guns on night shift. As a general rules rats, squirrels, and what not dont last long around me.
And out at the farm? Any critter that eats duck or pheasant eggs is on my hit list. And that means skunks, possums, coons, coyotes, feral cats...ect

damn vulcan.. an air rifle will kill jacks at over 80 yards (80m is over 80 yards right?)?
I shot one of the 1200 fps airguns the other day and was surprised at how loud it was. What is funny is that they now make a silencer version of the guns.

Air rifles cannot be discharged within my city limits. Something about pre-pube punks roaming around at night shooting out streetlights and windows of parked cars......

As I found out one day when some jerk called the cops on me and my friend.

I like capping squirrels with Airsoft pistols. Doesn't kill them but they tend to move their operations to neighbors yards.

well, the front and sides of the house are vinyl siding, but the addition and porch/deck are all wood paneling/siding.. untreated..
just been plain lazy, as far as treating it.. shooting the squirrels is simply more fun... :t

Yup thats right. But they have problems, as 'springer' air rifles get more power they get less accurate, they kinda kick funny when they fire. And they're heavy. The rabbits and hares (aka jacks) are also getting wise to me and not hanging around, so I'm seeing a lot of stuff 'egress' the area beyond 80m. I'm waiting for my firearms license to come through (should be this week), I've had enough of my air rifle - I've got a Savage 223 with a 4-12x40AO scope and suppressor on hold :) . Figure it'll also cover the goats, pigs, and deer in the area too.

Vulcan if the permit falls through, I suggest looking into precharged air rifle. I know of one company that I believe makes a 900+ fps rifle in 9mm and 1100 in .22.

It's just paperwork on the license, everything has been doing, it's just case of waiting for the postman to deliver :)

The springers that are supersonic (1150+ FPS) can be unstable in flight, as the pellet passes through the sound barrier.. But thats one reason I got a 1000 fps rifle. Just under the sound barrier, and i can shoot 3/4 in groups all day from 20-30 yds. (the length of the backyard of my house.). I Dont NEED anything more.

I wouldn't go pig hunting with a 223...you need a bigger rock than that.

Its not an air rifle, but its a good shooting story none the less.
I took this buffalo at about 75 yards with my M48 Yugo mauser with a Yugo sniper scope shooting 200 Gr. Accubonds ontop of Turkish military cases with 3 grains of powder removed. I fired one round that hit just behind the shoulder that severed the spine and exploded the heart immediately dropping and killing the animal. who says you need a buffalo rifle to kill buffalo, 8mm mauser works beautifully :)

the next step is to go for an e-cat endorsement and start stockpiling the evil stuff for the revolution ;)

Small pigs <100m? Me uncle says it's fine, a 60 gr 223 will take care of them nicely. He's retired and works as a hunting guide - him and my dad have been pig hunting all their lives (the kind back when they'd just use knives and dogs because ammo was to expensive).
