Nice plane...wish I was in the market.
-
Email me @ pittspilot@cinci.rr.com. I was considering a build of an 8 or 7, but id rather have a ready to fly than taking the time to build.
-
What's the expensive side, err the inside look like?

Ok call me stupid but why a second stick but no instruments on his side? I know money may be a an issue but that's kind of weird. Make it dual controls with instruments both sides would increase the value and IMO make it a potential trainer right? Think i would have at least done the switches and had a cutout for the instrument panel screen built into it as an added selling point for it.
Just a thought.

What he said. I sure hope your nice glass cockpit doesn't run on Windows Me...

It's not set up for instrument flight, so no need for instruments if you're just flying VFR.
-
I'd wager that all the instruments and required items are integrated into the box.
You don't typically use an RV7 as a "trainer" anyway. What box is that anyway Nick? Looks like it even gives you an FPA indication...I loves me some FPA!
FPA = Flight Path Angle, the little airplane symbol like you might see on a figher jet's HUD:

What kind of CG restrictions do you come up against with the RV7 and the 200HP engine. I'm looking at an RV8 and was steered toward the 180hp engine. That and I don't need the extra 20 horses with fuel at $6/gallon and going up :(
-
The enigma has EVERYTHING IN THE BOX, it literally does. airspeed, rate of climb, artificial horizon, fuel flow, cylinder head temp, ext temp, alt, GPS, Moving map, Tach pretty much everything you could want. And you can see it from the right side just fine. I was considering adding steam gages to the package but it just adds weight and if a prospective buyer wanted it I could add it its very easy, heck they could add it themselves if they wanted. Really if it had a total failure and you lost everything its still a plane just fly it. if you cant fly VFR without any insterments then you need more training. Obviously its VFR day and Night. But we did have the transponder checked IFR, and if you wanted it IFR it would be very easy to add the steam gages.
The only reason you would want to use a RV7 for training is to train someone to fly an RV.
We put the catto prop and the CG is a non issue, actually its still in acrobatic limits with myself (200) and my wife (135) with room to spare. Gas at Caro, MI (CFS) is $4.65 if your looking for cheap gas.
Nick
-
Im interested but the lack of hardpoints makes it hard to fly in a menacing manner :devil
-
As of this morning the gas was 4.45 at Caro airport
-
That would be handy if it wasn't my home airport :cry
Six clams per gallon... :furious

Keep the panel as basic as the mission for the aircraft I say. No need to weigh it down with something that you may not use. I sell avionics and I see all these guys coming out of aircraft that they have used for years with the latest stuff and they want to add it to their LSA's. Overkill. Anyhoo, nick172, if you or anyone else on the BBs needs any avionics, let me know. Will see if I can work up an Aces High discount. You can reach me at the e-mail below. :salute

Mac needs an altimeter for his 9 Iron. Can you get one that reads in "Cats"?
:D

Know what the deal is with 407 ELTs running 2K a pop? The feds gonna mandate a 407, it ain't happening in my plane at 2K. At most, 500 - installed.
-
Ok what does the 407 elt do for you, I guess I've never had it explaned to me.
-
The 406 ELT uses a new frequency for triangulation that is much more accurate. The old 121.5 systems use a system that is somewhat unreliable as they can get quite a few false readings as well as they can go off quite easily. The newer units use a satellite based system. If the older unit goes off, you are looking at a search radius of about 20 square kilometers. The 406 will give a search area of about 28 square kilometers. There is an optional NAV interface unit that will get SAR a search area of .031 square kilomters.
If the new ELT goes off, the SARSAT system will give your emergency contact a call within roughly 30 minutes. Have a customer that had a hard landing and set off his ELT. His wife called him within 15 minutes wondering what was going on as the Search and Rescue had already called her. They are a little pricey right now. You would be looking at about $949 without installation. Their may be a couple of companies coming out with something cheaper in the next year or so. Wouldn't guess that it will be a lot cheaper. Don't expect to see something priced like the Ameri-King 450 in other words.
The main thing, is the safety factor. If you go down with a 121.5 unit, you may not see help for several hours. With the new units, you may see rescue within an hour. If you are injured, that could mean the difference. You could fly with a Personal Locator Beacon. They use the same system as the installed ELTs. The only issue there, would be if you could activate it after a crash or during the descent. Also, they do not have a G switch.
As far as a mandate, the FAA has not given any indication that they will mandate the switch. Transport Canada has. Expect AOPA to fight any kind of a mandate at this point. However, the COPSAS/SARSAT system ( which monitors for ELT transmission) will stop monitoring the 121.5 freq on Feb 1st of 2009. So, it is more of an issue of when you want to do it.
