What a pain in the rear end this is..The problem is that it works like a cheap gadget seems like I cant get it to turn soon enough without having to cross my my eyes to see what im looking at..THe screen. I want this thing to work like on the videos I saw of it..Anyone using it and having a great time please help me out and give me some tips..Thanks

I felt the same till I found a profile that someone, maybe Homeboy, had modified from Mace's settings. Shoot me a pm with an email address and you can give it a try. :salute

This is just a rant that probably wont get you much help. Just saying "all kind of problems" you should name them specifically. What the heck ARE your problems?

Pls list your problems w/ the TrackIr. I've been using the hardware/software for several months...no issues. BTW, you could have saved a few pesos if you went to http://dslyecxi.com/ and used the coupon.

The only real problem I have with mine is that, occasionally when I'm whipping my head around, I get a stone solid look at the floor of my plane and have to recenter which can cost precious seconds in a fight. I saw a thread that addressed this but haven't gotten around to looking for the fix to this.
Here's a question though... what do you guys think the optimum distance from your head to the sensor should be?

No rant was asking for help get it? I cant look behind my plane any more without doing a half cartwheel..That is my only issue..I was saying that at this point I am very unhappy with it.It is also hard to look all the way one direction without going cross eyed. Do u own one? If so what works the best for u? That is what Im asking.Hints tips so on so forth..Also seems that the hat clip works better than the track clip pro..TY...

ty for the post dentin ^^^ these are my main problems so far.Can u look behind ur plane easily? Also do u have problems with turning ur head to far from ur screen?? If not what are ur settings? Once again ty and :salute

Trigg22 you need to make the profile more aggressive.
Try the profile Halo46 is talking about, or make your own.
Once you get the profile figured out you will be able to look all around with out having to move your head to far from the monitor.

Here's another profile you can try.
Make sure you have it selected for Aces High to use in the TIR program.

I think you'll find that the "hat clip" works best, Grab "homeboys" profile and start there. I like to use aggressive settings, as it requires less head movement. Looking to the rear can be tricky, but once you "massage" the settings everything will become easier. Make sure you pay attention to the maximum distance from the sensor in the "doc's". It'll take a while to get used to, but once you do, yer gonna love it. :)

After a few years of using TrakIR I discoverd why when you whip your head around too rapidly it locks back and up or locks you down looking at the floor. I only use the basic air combat profile provided by the TrakIR software.
If you are using the flat reflective dot that comes with the TrakIR the camera cannot track it as you turn it out or up to the end of your travel arc. The reason for this is the flat dot to the camera is seen as its full light reflection entity when you are looking dead center to the monitor. As you angle away you are reducing the size of the dots reflective surface and the camera looses it, especially when you whip your head around rapidly. If you wear glasses, reflections from the lenses confuse the camera as you turn farther away from dead center because the size of the dot's reflective surface gets smaller.
I solved the problem for myself by the following:
1. Get a peice of 1/4 inch threaded rod 2 inches long and a rounded end nut.
2. Cover the rounded end nut completely with the reflective sticky dots from TrakIR.
3. Tape this to the top of your hat brim.
Because the end nut is fully coverd with reflective material, no matter how far up, down, side to side you turn your head, the camera still sees the same size dot as when you look directly into the monitor. If you have a track hat with the metal clip on you will notice the reflective surfaces have been curved for this reason.
I have an arm taped to the top of my monitor that brings my camera to 12-14 inces of my hat brim at dead center.
P.S. I have vector enabled and the track hat with clip. I find the basic dot tracking works best for me because its probelmatic contorting your body around with vectoring enabled to see out your 6 very well. If you have dot tracking enabled then the software will default to the 6 view you saved with F10 before you installed TrakIR.

TIR4 has come a long ways with respect to the problem bustr is describing. You can whip your head around until you sling your hat off and you won't mess up the tracking. You still get the "lap-snap" (my name for it) problem where if you look away for more than a few seconds (like trying to catch the score in the ballgame) and TIR loses it's track, it will sometimes "snap to your lap" and you have to reset the view to get it back working again. The most recent driver seems to have come a long way in fixing that problem though.
Others have said this and I'll just concur. You can't get the response too aggressive! Especially in this game. Mace's design is like sitting on top of a ball. Just the slightest movement moves your view. Otherwise, you feel sort of a "rubber-band effect" (Mace calls it) which hinders your movement. It takes a while to get used to the "top of the ball" but it really is the best way to use TIR in my opinion. I just forced myself to use it Mace's way for a couple of weeks and once I got used to it, it is as natural for me now as flying left handed. :D
TIR4 is far superior to earlier versions but (and I learned this from Mace) I don't use all six axes. I turn off Roll because it confuses things a lot and doesn't add that much anyway. Having the other five axes however is very sweet! Us AH folks are one of only two groups (MSFS is the other) that get the full 6DOF from TIR4. Even IL2, with all it's bells and whistles only supports 2DOF.

Well thanks for all the helpful replies everyone :salute I'm on track....ir now :lol very cool just need some practice with it now. Yes the aggressive way works wonders !!!S!!!! ALL

To hopefully add to the already helpful advice,
-If you're going to use the Track Clip Pro, you need to move the receiver off to the left a bit so that
it is "centered" on the led's on the clip and not your head, as the conventional setup would have you do.
You can confirm this by going to the "Tracking" section of the TIR program and watch the 3 dots as you
move your head and make sure that they always stay within the receivers view.
-With the Track Clip Pro, make sure you have the Track clip selected in the profile you are using, or you will get
all sorts of weird movements...and turn off True View, or it will "reverse" your head movements when looking rearward.
-Also, as some have mentioned, I fly without the "Roll" axis, as it introduces too much movement that can be confusing.
-Along with mapping a "Centering" button to my stick, I also mapped the "precision" mode to my stick. This allows you to
run a much less aggressive profile temporarily...I mainly use it for jabo, but it comes in handy for other things as well.
-As far as the "lap-snap", mine reverts to the default view of forward in the cockpit when the TIR looses reception. Like
when my head tilts back to drink my beer :D...I dunno if this is something that I setup or not. I've never had it go to any
other view when it stops tracking.
Hope this helps a little.
